I woke up covered in red bites and unfortunately now have a bed bug infestation in my home as a result of staying there. Now my husband and I have an $800 Exterminator bill to deal with. Strongly recommend to avoid.

On February 27, 2013 I checked into the Double Tree hotel for a work convention nearby. I had a previous encounter with bed bugs once before and it was an incredibly upsetting situation. That said, I make it a habit now to always check my bed before I get into it. I pulled back all the sheets and I found one tiny bug. I took a picture and zoomed in on it and I knew immediately it was a bed bug. I notified the front desk and they sent housekeeping with a general manager up to check it out. They s

aid they had never had a problem in this hotel before and that was the first one they'd seen. Clearly, with the report I just read, that's not true. However, they did move me right away and upgraded my room.

A few tips to keep in mind when using a hotel:

1. It doesn't matter how nice the hotel is...they're all subject to bed bugs
2. Never put your luggage on the bedding or any other furniture in the room - I always use the luggage rack
3. Buy a bottle of travel bed bug spray - I spray it on my bed (all around the corners and sides underneath the sheets and let it set for a while before I actually get in to sleep
4. ALWAYS check your bed before you get into it. Bed bugs are common in corners, tight places, etc so make sure you are checking along the wall, in-between sheets, in the seams of the mattress and wherever else.

It may seem like a pain of a process to go through before you can relax, but I assure you...if you've ever experienced it before, it is NOT a fun experience and you will be glad you did when you don't have to deal with it.

In June of 2011 I was staying at this location for three days while completing orientation for my new job. My roommate and I did not notice anything wrong until noon the next day. While sitting in training, my hands, arms and legs began to itch. I didn't think much of it until I looked over at my roommate and saw her scratching too. We went to the restroom and began rolling up our sleeves and pants legs to compare. Bright red bites covered our bodies. She got the worst of it on her neck. Long st

ory short we notified the hotels management and they insisted this was the first time they had this problem. I was upset because I could not go home because I had my husband and two children, one of which was only three months old. I couldn't risk bringing bed buggs into my home. After dry cleaning and doctor visits all I received was a stupid letter from the exterminator who has serviced the double tree, saying this had never happened in the 8 years he has had their account. After he inspected my room he found a very small ”infestation!”

I was not happy and I would liked someone to put there self in my shoes and offer a sincere apology. Instead of trying to make me go away.
