Upon checking into the Crowne Plaza Downtown Memphis I was assigned room 1016. I went up to my room and found it to have a bad smoky odor. I went back down to the front desk and was reassigned room 928. Once I got into room 928 I did my routine bed bug check. During the check I found bed bug casings on the matress piping where it would meet the head board. After finding that I decided to change rooms again. At this time I called down to the front desk and spoke to a manager named. I was t
hen placed into room 915. Once I got into 915 I started to check for bed bugs again and found one on the box spring cover crawling near the headboard. I tried to catch it, and when I did I accidentally smashed it. I kept the remains and showed it to a hotel manager that came up to look at it. After that I was reassigned a 4th room! This one was room 923. I inspected 923 and then went to dinner and did not intially find anything. Once returning from dinner and preparing to go to sleep I decided to check one more time. During my second inspection I found two alive and one dead bed bug on the box spring. I succesfully captured both in a drinking glass. At that time I immediately contacted hotel staff. The night manager, a maintenance worker and what I believe was the housekeeping manager came up to the room. I showed them my findings and manger and the maintenance worker confirmed what I found was bed bugs. The housekeeping manager didn’t say a word and seemed to be very irritated with me. At that time the manager said she wanted to check me into another room. I refused, talked with my company and went to another hotel completely.

I found one crawling across the top sheet after I had been laying in bed reading for about an hour. I killed it and had smashed it beyond recognition, so I wasn't certain it was a bedbug. I looked around and found another on a pillow, killed it and verified that it was a a bed bug. Hotel management changed my room to one on the 9th floor and after a thorough check of the bed (box spring, mattress, all sheets) I was satisfied that the new room didn't have any obvious signs.
