I was the roommate of the person who left this report:
"I lived in unit 3 for a year. We got blamed for brining in the bed bugs (We were the street couch people, I know, we're asses, but we were poor) and then found out that the appartment above us had a preceding problem. We were sprayed a few times, cleaned rigorously every day, got rid of the couch, and the problem went away... only to return a few months later. The bed bugs move around that building and just go to a unit that was not spra
yed recently. I moved."
I had lived in the unit for a year prior to her living there and for two years after she moved out. While the issue did come from the couch we brought in (dumb, I know) myself and our third roommate never actually had bugs in our rooms again, the recurring problem only happened in the room of the girl who posted above- perhaps because she was a slob who never properly dealt with the situation. After she was asked to leave the room was cleaned out, someone with a basic understanding of laundry and vacuuming moved in and we spent two more bug free years living there.
Mr. Bassil and his super, Vaughn are both very attentive to the needs of people living in their building. My old roommate simply had a victim complex and a lack of personal responsibility.

Once again an update on 359 Davenport Road. It never fails to amaze me that someone will write to a website anonymously with information that is neither current nor accurate. Our building has been without a pest problem for 18 months and yet in October of this year 2009 the "tenant" ( who brought in a street couch infested with BB in 2007 and who lived here for one year ) and who claims is poor,( although the rental fee in that unit is far above the average in that neighbourhood) has come up
with a tale that just doesn't hold water.
Each and everytime a challenge is presented to the management of 359 Davenport we respond in both a timely and professional manner. The unit in question was treated and the problem never returned after the final spraying. We have over 17 units in the building and our retention level is over 90% annually with tenants staying an average of 4 years, including the principle tenant of the apartment in the report. You'd think she might have moved out if we were negligent with a pest problem?
The truth of matter is that 1) the tenants brought in the bb couch and created the problem
2) tenants generally fail to prepare the unit as per the instructions of the pest control company and that hinders the treatment
3) there has not been a call to that unit for almost 2 years on any matter.
Remember, there is an epidemic of bb in all major cities all over the world and especially in our area yet at 359 Davenport we have the best pest control people doing a great job, that part of the story was sadly not included in Apt 3's anonymous rendition. Being honest and not theatrical helps sites like this - fiction should remain on the shelves of your bookstores. We care about our tenants.

As the manager of 359 Davenport Road, I can assure you that no one has ever been allowed to "brake" a lease with our company. BB are a reality of life and there have been many accusations about the pests and none of them are true when it comes to my property.
We first encountered bedbugs from a tenant who had travelled to the US and brought them back with him. He remained quiet about the infestation and when we were alerted about the problem -his unit, the unit beside and above him were trea
ted immediately by our contracted pest control company. The second time in '07, tenants brought in a street couch ( don't ever bring in furniture you don't know the origins of) and within a few days- we removed, sprayed and controlled the problem. Miss Anonymous, who claimed we sprayed for 8 months ( bi-weekly) had failed to mention that her unit was never properly prepared and therefore was difficult to treat. Had she done the proper preps the unit would have been bb free in just a short time.
The moral of the story is that at 359 Davenport we have faced BB and have treated them immediately and have a program that is guaranteed to control the problem. Acting on the problem is what we do quickly and professionally. Not the stories listed above that are exaggerated for the purpose of this website. The issue is how fast and effective is property management when facing any problem and I believe, judging by our low turnover, we are that company.

We had bedbugs in Apt 12 in 2007 for about 4 months. Someone in the building brought in a used bed from the street. The landlord sprayed once and we cleaned the apt thoroughly for weeks, tossing lots of stuff and doing everything we read online one could do. They never returned. We talked to neighbours who got bedbugs in their places after us, but we have been free of them since. - Sept 2008.

I had BBs at this apartment for +/- 8 months. although the landlord did spray and had a pest control company \"on retainer\", the landlord refused to spray the whole building, just units with BBs. in the end, once the problem had gone away from a few month, I moved out.
I was told the infestation came from a fellow in the basement and/or a new mattress from Sleep Country Canada (told by the landlord).

how did you manage to break your lease? Did your land lord giove you a hard time

I have been living in Apt #7 at 359 Davenport Rd since Sept 07. In November of 07 we found that we had bedbugs. Our landord sprayed every month for the past 6 month with no effect on the bed bugs. The rumor is that they were brought in by the tenants of the apartment below us in a couch they got off the street. I do not know if any of the other units are having any problems but I wouldn't be surprised. We were able to brake our lease and are leaving.
