7 fumigations, hundreds of dollars on laundry, $150 for mattress covers, over $1000 to replace furniture, now I'm having all the carpets ripped up and replaced with hardwood. Thank God I'm in a Co Op!!! Paid for the fumigation and the replaced flooring. Nothing can compensate for the psychological impact of all this...I haven't seen my granddaughters since June, haven't been anywhere or done anything but deal with bedbugs. Between the fifth and sixth fumigations, I saw only one bedbug and tho
ught...this is it. The end of the war. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel...Then between the sixth and seventh, one more bedbug. I don't know what I'll do if I see one after the flooring is done...because I have no idea where they're coming from.

September 21, 2011. Four fumigations, still seeing the occasional bug. 2 neighbouring homes have been infested, and sprayed multiple times. Thank God this is a housing Co Op, or the treatment would have cost thousands of dollars. I've replaced beds, dresser, bedding including pillows. The new mattresses are in bugproof mattress covers (the expensive ones). My apartment has wall to wall carpets, soon to be replaced with hardwood. I didn't go anywhere or have visitors for the whole summer, a
nd won't until I'm sure the bugs have been eradicated. The experience has effected me psychologically, I have feelings of bugs crawling under my skin, and I sleep in half-hour stints.

I'm getting sprayed tomorrow...July 28, 2011. After being in denial for weeks...thinking I had spider bites on my legs, or that my cats had brought fleas into the house, I finally caught an adult bug on July 23 and researched it on the internet. Horrors! The bites on my legs don't itch, so I thought they were caused by heat rash at first.
Since I've identified the culprit, I've been kept awake all night by crawling bugs. Usually I can sit up, turn the light on and squash the bug..I al
so didn't know they had a distinctive odour. Of course by this time I have blood spots on sheets and pillows, and am totally grossed out.
I am very fortunate to have neighbours I can talk to about this. I've learned a tremendous amount, and been able to share my research findings as well. Being able to talk with someone helps reduce feelings of shame...that somehow it's all my fault.
