not only do i think this place is crawling but (josph) the landlord likes to use your apt. for a crash den for other tenets as well as let your apt. be used as a public bathroom when your not home for ppl. looking at apt.

Thank god I saw this site. I was considering this place for its location but I guess I will keep looking.

does anyone have any current information about 15 penrose road? a friend of mine looked at an apartment there the other day and fell in love with it. imagine her dismay when she googled her future address and found a slew of bedbug alerts for the building! she's spoken to the landlord who is insisting the problem has been taken care of. she wants to believe him but of course, needs to be smart here. anyone want to share?

"According to the law"... hahaha what a putz. The post questions why other posters won't include their full names and then ends with a threat. hahaha putz.

I've seen bed bugs in this apartment building. The hallways are carpeted which is just silly. Upkeep is lacking.

I visited the place last week, and thank goodness i discovered this page, I thought i noticed insects in the building and rats chipping through the wooden walls. I will stay away from it (the garbage in the back is the source of this infestation as well as the building that needs professional insect management)

I was looking for a review on the net of this place to see if i was the only person to have the bed bugs infestation.
I also noticed huge insects wandering in the building (hundreds) and rodents as well.
the building is very old and the management wants everything to stay cheap even on the expense of residents health.
I hope the health department is notified and the building is evicted because this is a serious problem

I agree that there is a big bed bugs and insects infestation in the building.
multiple factors play a role in the problem, the garbage disposal in the building is a problem, and the building itself is old and infested.
I would think twice about renting in it, as the problem is very big.

The landlord seems unwilling to accept the fact that there is a SERIOUS BEDBUG PROBLEM in this building. Rather than employ a thorough and professional extermination strategy, the landlord seems content with a sort of 'band-aid' solution approach. This means that the maintenance guy will sort of stroll over and do a little "poof....poof's" with some outdated spray and that will be that. No inspection, no follow up, no nothing.
The only reason a comprehensive BEDBUG solution has not been att
empted at this building (and many others) is a simple matter of cost. So you must ask yourself: "Is my health and sense of well-being not important enough to the landlord to warrant the expense of a thorough extermination?" Apparently not. And make no mistake: A PROFESSIONAL solution is the LANDLORD'S RESPONSIBILITY. Acknowledge the problem and deal with it responsibly! It is obvious.

This is in response to the letter posted by the Penrose Property Management team:
This website is not a personal attack on apt building, there is no reason why anybody would want to cause a problem for you. People have better things to do with their time, thank you.
This site is to inform and protect tenents within the city. As you have not informed people who have recently moved in, which is understandable from your point of view, it is necessary for people to have a source of informatio
n when making a decision as to where they want to live. This is why people have posted their comments on this site, to inform people of their experiences...
Now, regarding your comments that people are telling lies about their experience with bed bugs at this building, are clearly the TRUTH, which is shown in your OWN RESPONSE when YOU stated YOURSELF that there have been 3 KNOWN CASES this year so far! In my opinion, for such a small dwelling, this is more than enough to cause concern.
We are not attacking you, just informing the public, as is our every right as a tenant. And as far as your fumigation methods are stated, it is a public known fact now that bedbugs have now created an immunity to the sprays and powders that are being used. If you do some research, you will find that the only sure way to rid the premises of these insects, you need to have the building fumigated with a high heat professional treatment. You can find more information at www.furmanite.com if you truly card to solve this issue. What your treatments are doing is moving the bugs into the next apartment, which is why you have had three cases this year so far.
I strongly advise you start to take this situation seriously instead of trying to cover up the truth.
Thank you,
YOUR TENANTS!

I was a property manager for this building years ago. We sprayed for bugs twice a year, even if no one made any bug complaints. We always started on the top floor of this 3 story building as the spray company suggested for a proper job. If anyone in the building sees even one bug of any kind, do 2 things. First, write a note and slip it under the office door with your work and home phone numbers on it, so the maintenance guy can see the apartment and make an appointment to spray each unit that d
ay. Also ask the super or landlord to borrow the vacuum cleaner so each person can vacuum the edges in each mattress on both sides of the mattress. That is where they hide. If you do not use a very strong vacuum cleaner, they will probably not be sucked up by a hand held dinky vacuum. Wash all your sheets and pillow cases only in very hot water. All spraying requires the tenant on the morning of the spraying to remove all items from under the kitchen sink and each drawer and cabinet in the kitchen. Put all items, dishes etc, in sealed green garbage bags in another room. The windows must be sealed for the whole day to keep the spray in the apartment. After the spraying, wash off all tables, desks and counter surfaces in each room. Let the super and manager get rid of any bugs for you, such as silverfish found in bathrooms. All old storage boxes can be suspect and even winter clothes etc. they will follow up with a phone call to you the day day or night if you report any bugs. Just make the phone call and make sure you have left you new cell number with the building owner/property manager. Also leave your office number if you are serious about getting it sprayed the same day. Do the same for any building. By the way, the hot water in the washing machines in this building is very hot unlike the rush at the laundromat on the corner, who turn the high temp on the water down to save money. Make the phone call ASAP and leave a written note under the office door. Do your part.

I moved into 15 Penrose in June and within 2 months I discovered that I had bedbugs. I believe this place is infested because I saw a bedbug crawl across my bed in broad daylight, which is unusual behaviour for them. As well, I found at least 6 other full grown bedbugs near my mattress and I u=in my night stand. The landlord acts like this is a minor situation and when I told him I was moving out, he said "bed bugs are everywhere in Toronto" to which I replied, "so you have
bed bugs at your place then?" Of course he doesn't.
Bottom line, several units at 15 Penrose currently have bed bugs and is not being properly managed at all. It might look like a nice building, but be warned...

I too had bedbugs in this building. It was a nightmare, and although management attempted to be supportive, they were unwilling or unable to understand what a huge problem bedbugs are. I got limited spray treatment by an exterminator, and management had no qualms about renting out my apartment to someone new while it was still being treated.

Thanks so much for writing those reviews!
I was just going to visit the place and found this out!

I lived here too. It was a nighmare. I had to throw away my clothes, my mattress, and pieces of furniture with fabric because the place was infested. The bedbugs would feed at night but sometimes I would catch them biting my feet when it was late in the evening. I would hit one and it would burst with blood from the bloodmeal. Management did not take the issue seriously enough and let the problem get out of hand. BEWARE OF THIS APARTMENT AND BEWARE OF THE BEDBUGS.

There are a LOT of bed bugs here. Ive stayed in places with bed bugs before but this place is the "master nest".
Managment is supportive and tries to spray, but there are just too many.
