I recently moved into this apartment. I haven't seen any live bugs but I did find a dead one in my laundry basket from the laundry room. I'm taking every precaution to ensure I don't get them and I'm getting the fuck out before I get them. You can get raid spray from walmart for 10$ which is specifically for bed bugs which I sprayed my mattress, box spring and floors with to prevent and kill them. I then purchased a zippered mattress cover for further protection. They don't like light so I leave

on the lights at night which is when they come out and I keep a fan directed at my bed at all times because they hate the cold. They sprayed my apartment just in case but I don't want to take any chances! They also sell bed bug traps at walmart. Stock up!!! Also, vacuum your mattress and box spring before you cover it!

Persistent bed bug problem in this place. Even after calling in an exterminator and washing everything, they persist. Within a few weeks we were reinfested... I can stay up at night and watch them crawl into the apartment through the crack between the wall and the floor.

Management seems helpful about getting exterminators in and trying to solve the issue, but so far, nothing helps.

It’s clear that there’s more than just the bed bug issue. I would think that’s because the people who run that building don’t care that every person who lives there has to throw out half their stuff. This is due to the BED BUG and cock roach infestation. Every wonder why there is always a stack of mattresses and couches out front of the place. Well I didn’t either until the bed bugs came. Kathleen’s comment about the person getting kicked out for illegal activity is comical. Was Shaw

na from her comment in 2008 the person you are making reference to? HAHA clearly this has been going on for years being its 2012. Worst place to live in Ottawa. Just look at the building when you’re on the 417. It looks 100% third world. Ever stayed up all night, night after night because you are too afraid of the bed bugs coming back and resulting itch? I have. Before I left there was a group of Ottawa University students that went floor to floor. Turns out there are bed bugs on EVERY SINGLE FLOOR. They started an email to help people find out the truth 229bedbugproblem@gmail.com

I had bed bugs immediately when I moved in. The guy before me had to move out because of it and they never sprayed. Then they kicked out a guy down the hall and my place was infested with roaches. My neighbors above and below me all had them and for longer than I did. This property management company is based in Montreal and clearly has no idea what is going on or more likely don't care. Any accounts made in defense of the property management team are clearly being made by Derek or Steve. Those

are the two men who will rudley deal with you and your problems unless it involves giving them money. Talk about service. Do not move into this building if you respect yourself because no one will respect you or your property in this building. speaking of illegal activity in the building....the super is constantly inebriated and driving his truck around or smoking cigarettes while showing the place...cleaning ect inside the building. Entire building is full of sketch bags and students so dont expect any peace. I can hardly wait to see what rebuttal Steve, Deborah, Wendy, Collin, and Derek have next...I mean Kathleen.

I am appaled at what I am reading here, i know the person who is making all these reports. He is angry because he was thrown out for illegal activity he was doing. There is no bedbugs in this building and the super works hard to keep it clean.I am very happy here.

I recently moved out of this place, and
the bedbug still followed me to my new place
despite of my effort to get rid of it before
I came here. Make sure to get rid of furnitures
such as bed, boxspring, and couch and do NOT
take them with you when you move out!

The management of the building is HORRIBLE!

i moved in this building recently ,it is a big mistake i never made in my life .
bed bug is everywhere. and horrible smell horrible
why the health depart or whoever from the government never mandate .

I lived at this @ for 2 years. Didn't see anything til my last 6 months their. I remember waking up with like 10 of them on my blanket, even the baby bedbugs are evasive. One starting crawling under the sleeve of my sweater. Leave lights/TV on at night, and leaving the balcony door during the fall/winter as they don't like coldness works. Spraying the base of walls only works for so long. So glad to be out of their. The super is quite friendly though and is willing to help need be. The admin as

sistant is on crack. The washer/dryers really suck as well,

Do not move in here, unless you have no absolutely other choice. Not worth it! You'll have to throw everything out.

The building needs to be condemned!

This place has bed bugs bad. I have had them for nearly 3 months. Even after the apartment was sprayed. Enough is enough. The building has them from floors 3 through 10. I specifically had a conversation with the management about it and they told me that they wouldn't be spraying the whole building. Too bad for the people who are moving in and didn't check this site.
Sure some buildings have them on occasion but floors 3 through 10 is a serious problem. There is no debating this fact as I was

one of the people who went floor to floor investigating and getting pictures of the bugs people had caught in clear tape and in jars and the pictures of the mess of bed bug bites on their bodies. I should point out this was after I was told to keep it to myself as I was the only one with this problem. BEWARE OF THIS PLACE.

Yes. It is an old building, but the conditions of the place depends of which unit.. so I'm guessing
if you have problems with ur place
I advise you stop whining and go deal with management, somebody will help you
fix the problem.

Regarding bedbugs, yes it has been a problem
so people need to be aware of it for sure.
But things are being taken care of like
any other apartments in Ottawa.
It is the management's responsibillity to
fix the problems of the apartment for the tenants

.

I got a few bedbugs in my place so I let them know..an exterminator came within a week at the end of June. and I haven't seen the bugs since then.

The most horrible place I've ever lived&been.
People whoever said good things about this building and the management of the building
are bullshi**ing us. They must be the ones who work in the management so they don't want us to spread this news to other ppl so other ppls can also be victims and spend money on living in this horrible place.

1. The patios for this place are Pigeon's home
They will wake you up in early mornings by googooing loudly and poop all over your patio.
Your da

ily routine will be to scare them away.. evey. single. day. I've been living here for a year and I've never been on the patio, it's disgusting. Also, if you keep your window open they will try to get in your place.

2. no window screen, I told them to take care of it, but they replied saying that I'm responsible for this so I can get the window screen at Canadian tire and set it up myself. (while other building with good management take care of it right away)

3. Slow management
Everytime I try to reach them,or when they say they will take care of problems, I get a reply or
help weeks or months later. I don't know how they are even called the management.. they don't give damn about their tenants but money.

4. No central air conditioning. You need to buy your own expensive air conditioner and once you set it up, ur place looks even more ghetto.

5. elevator doesn't work so many times!!
you're guarentee that you are going to get trapped at least one time you live here and
sometimes it doesn't open the door.
the elevators here are the slowest ones I've ever
experienced.

6.Smells really bad in general.
smells of garbage...etc. I cannot describe how bad the hallways and elevators smell.

7. bathtubs get plugged up often and the fan in bathrooms are soooo loud and sqeaky. you'll have to put oil on it and stuff yourself because the management wouldn't give a crap.

8. the only good thing about the building is the location... close to universities and busstops pubs and restaurents... that's it.
the rental fee is not even that cheap considering the quiality of the place.

9. scary neighbors. Some "drunk"(assumed) people (if not drunk, that would be even scarier)
tried to get into my place in the middle of the night several times.. like they tried to use their key to get into my place or simply jiggle the door knob to see if they can get in.
that really freaked me out as im a woman who lives in here by myself.

The bugs own this building. The tenants are their lunch.

I found three bugs in my apartment last month after having been bitten multiple times. Although my apartment has since been sprayed, I feel the chances of reinfection are pretty darn high.

One neighbour had his apartment sprayed at least twice this summer but is still having problems with bugs. A second neighbor keeps the legs of his bed in buckets of water in an attempt to keep the bugs at bay. A third neighbor is riddled with bite

s everynight. Above me, the couple have resorted to covering the floors of their apartment with strips of duck tape to catch the bugs as they mosey on by. In the elevator, people share bug horror stories and compare bug bite patches. In the laundry room, people try desperately to wash the bugs out of their clothes and linens.

Hardly a place to call home.

I lived at this building from November 2007 to June 2009. Everything was fine until bed bugs suddenly invaded the place in early 2009. I don't know how they suddenly invaded my apartment, but there were lots and lots of them. I once spotted one in my underwear while undressing the bathroom, can you imagine how freaked out I was? They were in my bed, on and around my laundry bag and even on the carpet. Life became unbearable because of them and also because of my crazy crackhead neighbour who us

ed to like blaring music at 3am on weekdays. I moved out. By the way the people at this building cheated me out of my deposit as well. The management company at the time was apparently in Montreal and they were just impossible to reach. I HIGHLY recommend that nobody move in here.

I've lived here for about 2 years and hadn't had any problems. Recently I heard from a few other tenants about bed bug infestations, so I was pretty paranoid because I had been noticing new bug bites in different places every day (bites that I couldn't remember getting, no notable mosquito pokes). I didn't look because I knew if I saw one, I would not be able to sleep. I was enjoying my state of denial until tonight when my cat spotted a bug on my bed (my brand new mattress, sheets). I killed it

, and knew right away what it was (due to obsessive googling after noticing bites). My cat spotted another one in the same corner of my bed less than five minutes later, but I wasn't fast enough to kill it.

I've been here for 4 months and haven't had any issues. From what I've seen they spray regularly for all types of bugs as a preventative measure. I spoke to the landlord several times before coming in about what happens if any issues arise. They definitely care about keeping the building clean and I was comfortable with what I saw and heard from them. I have friends that have had issues in other buildings where the landlord completely ignores them. So far I haven't seen that at all over her

e.

I do not know what you guys are talking about. The bed bugs run the place. This is no joke. I know for a fact that apartments on at least 5 floors had to be sprayed about a month ago. Call Cedrics they are the ones who treat the building. The land lords refuse to spray around the problem areas, only individual infected apartments, this really identifies how large the problem is in the building. Which I think is the worst because you get to hear ur neighbours horrible stories and see the bed bug

bites swelling on their faces, turning into big welts. Then one magical day u will start scratching and finding bugs in ur bed and realize that all these stories on this blog were serious. When you realize that getting that cheap rent just cost you ur sanity and probably your bed and couch you will be upset. I promise you. Take a look on the internet at what bed bug bites are... see how the bugs can move through the walls on the water pipes and electrical wires unit to unit ....its a matter of time ... And from my first hand experience its a nightmare.

I moved in with my boyfriend this past May and the unit was very clean. We have not heard of any problems in the building.

I moved in to 229 Argyle last November as I have a friend that's been in the building for over a year. We both have had no problems with bugs of any kind. Actually I can say the landlord and property manager have been very accomodating. I did inquire about a few items including extermination before moving in and was explained that any problems that come up are taken care of and improvements are being made all the time. From talking to others it seems they used to have bad property management

but this was eliminated a couple of years ago. From what I see, they are looking to keep the building clean and retain their tenants.

I'm concerned. I want to move out of the building. My newly "upgraded" 1-br 6th floor unit was sprayed late in 2009 after I moved my belongings in (minus a bed). The landlord accessed my unit some weeks later but there has been no follow-up since then. Also - the building is not being cared for. Cleanliness of the building is deteriorating. I'll be using this site to ensure my next centretown apartment is bug free (hopefully...)

I can understand why the bugs like the building. Half the garbage chutes dont even close so the hallways stink of garbage. But one real question I have is how you concluded the land lords care about anything but money. LOOK AT THE BUILDING and the stacks of junk that sit in front of it.

I've been living in this building for the last 5 months. I haven't seen any type of bug problem. The owners care about this building. Don't know if anything ever existed in the past but they would definitely have taken care of it. I've talked to other tenants and they have no problems. The other reports that say the building is infested are definitely not true.

I lived there for less than 2 months. I was INFESTED with bedbugs. the landlord told me the whole apartment building was infested. he seemed casual and non-chalant, I think he'd known about it for a while. the sick thing is, he was still renting out rooms the whole time! BEWARE OF THIS PLACE. He did pay for an exterminator to come to my room on the fourth floor and spray it. He had to come at least 5 times and by that point I was not even sure if they were gone or not.

I was moving out. On mo

ving out day, I was still finding a few bugs even after 5 treatments! Had to throw out most of my furniture, my bed, half my clothes....seal the rest of my clothes, papers, and books in airtight bags and freeze them for weeks, etc. among other things. was a nightmare I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy.

Oct 28th, 2008 - I approached landlord to tell him I think I might have either fleas or bedbugs and he said it's bedbugs, he said the whole building has them! the whole 11 floor building...it must be quite an infestation then! I expected he would spray right away but he said something about how he hopes people will come early next week to treat it. so stressful!
