Today's weather forcast for 201, 211 & 219 is cloudy with a chance of cockroaches. Yes that's right the roaches are so bad they fall from the ceiling like rain.
not a happy camper on 11/28/2012
Hello,
I moved into 219 bell st over the summer. Since i moved there i cant turn off my lights because of the bugs in my unit. I tried the raid spray, and the chalk. Nothing works to get rid of them and i have seen them in the halls and in the left elevator in the track pad, theres one thats dead. My unit is next to the stiars and i can hear scratching noises coming from the walls. At first i thought it was coming from my pantry,I was scared to opem the doors for weeks. Then i noticed the n
oise moving in the walls. When i was paying my rent one month i over heard a converstation with another tenant and the lady in the front. He had an issue in buliding 201 where a mouse was hiding in his closet. They just told him to make sure there is no food for the mouse to eat. So far not a happy camper with my unit.

Heck ya there are bugs. Mostly roaches and lots of them... even in the elevators. And there's mice. But dont tell the office because theyll tell you you dont have any then wont give you notice when they do decide to do something.Sometimes there's no hot water or heat. But dont call the supers or theyll tell you its just you and not an emergency. So you freeze and cant shower or do dishes and then more bugs come. Super gross.

Please be informed that 201,211, 219 Bell St North buildings are now under New Management and so the buildings has new Property Manager. Please keep in mind you may encounter bugs problem if you live in any apartment buildings. It is extremely important that the Landlord and tenants have to work together in order to get rid of any bugs been found.

So, let's see, we have reports of NO BEDBUGS, and then lots of other people have them.
Ironically enough the comments that are NO BEDBUGS are all around the same date for 201, 211, 219 Bell Street. Keep this in mind if you are reading these comments. I'm guessing this is just management trying to manage their losses.
I was going to rent here until I saw all these reports - now it's NO THANK YOU. If you do rent here, make sure you have an escape clause if there are bedbugs, and don't let la
ndlords tell you that you brought them with you. They hide everywhere, breed everywhere.
Good luck

I never had bed bugs and I lived in both 219 and 211 Bell for over 10 years until last month and I saw lots of things over the years. When I first moved in til about 4 yrs ago years ago, I'd have totally agreed with all the crap on here but not now. This building has really cleaned up and the new management seems to be putting a lot of effort it to making it really nice. I saw a couple roaches once, winter before last, but the office took care of it within a couple days, even checked like a mont
h or so later. No problems since. Place isn't crawling like some people claim, mind you I'm an obsessive compulsive neat freak.

This is the last place anyone would even think of moving, considering how terrible the building is. The area is a slum and the management (except the one called Sylvia) is the only cultured staff. To be honest, from what I learned from other tenants, if Sylvia is not their front staff, the property owners would have been in serious debt by now bcos even the few tenants they have would have packed out. The property manager is terrible, tenants are always complaining about her in the hall way and
elevator. You will not know this until you have to deal with her....especially if you dare complain about your apartment and request repairs to be carried out. The stench in the building is hurrible.

I am moving into 219 next month... Officially. I have been staying at my friends place in the same building for 3 months and my friend has lived here for a few years and can't say we've ever had a bug problem. I think she's only seen like 1 roach once like close to when she moved in, never ever bed bugs, and said someone in the office had a company go in same week and nothing since. I can't wait to get into my own place. It's so nice and super close to my school.

THE LAST PERSON WHO POSTED REPORT ON 201 BELL ST, ABOUT THE HEARTLESS, RUDE AND UNCIVILIZED PROPERTY MANAGER of Bell Terrace (201, 211, and 219) hit the nail on the head. I echo all her comments. The weapon Kathy uses on tenants is intimidation. The moment you drag with her, she threatens you with the Landlord and Tenant Board, forgetting that the judges there are sensible, reasonable and will listen to both sides of the story. She even extorts money from tenants, especially when she notices you
dont know
the law, particularly new immigrants. THE THREE BUILDINGS (201, 211, 219 Bell st N) SMELL TERRIBLY, ESPECIALLY IN THE SUMMER. THIS IS THE WORST TIME OF THE YEAR IN THE RAT, ROACH AND BEDBUG-INFESTED APARTMENT BUILDINGS. IF THEY ARE GOING TO SHOW YOU AN APPARTMENT, THEY WOULD QUICKLY GO AND DUMP SOME CHEMICALS TO SUPPRESS THE ODOUR. ONCE YOU SIGN THE LEASE, YOU ARE HOOKED.WHEN YOU GIVE NOTICE TO VACATE AT THE END OF YOUR TENANCY, THEY MAKE IT DIFFICULT FOR YOU TO VACATE THE UNIT, THEY WILL EVEN THREATEN YOU WITH ORDER FROM LANDLORD AND TENANT BOARD. UNFORTUNATELY MANY TENANTS DONT EVEN KNOW THEIR RIGHTS. THE THREE BUILDINGS ARE MORE THAN HALF-EMPTY. EVERYDAY I SEE PEOPLE MOVE OUT, SOME EVEN BREAKING THEIR LEASE. LEAVING THERE IS HELL, LET ALONE THE RUDE AND WORST PROPERTY MANAGER YOU CAN FIND IN OTTAWA. I WONDER IF THEY EVER TRAINED HER BEFORE HIRING HER?? DOES ANYONE KNOW??
Annonymous on 04/13/2012
To be honest, bed bugs and roaches are not the only problem of this building, the real problem is the extremely poor customer service and condecending attitude of the so called property manager/director called Kathy of the buildings 201, 211, and 219 Bell St north. Its so bad that you hear people talk about her inside the elevator. For your own good, stay away!!! look for apartment elsewhere. About three tenants on our building have repeatedly mentioned their ordeal with her, including how they
dragged her to Landlord and Tenancy Board. Like someone said here, "shitty" manager indeed

It's been about a year and 4 months since me and my mom moved in 219 Bell st. N, but since the beginning we started seeing bed bugs and lots of cockroaches, so my mom cleaned the apartment every single day for 5 months with bleach, and we had it sprayed! but guess what... they keep on coming back! and the shitty manager keeps on saying 2morow we'll come and see and they never came for about a month, so we gave up and my mom started her intense cleaning again and from so much cleani
ng she mixed ammonia and bleach and she almost she looked half dead, and that's because the management couldn't clean those OUT. But just last month a mice has entered the apartment! my mom has Musophobia, which is fear from the sight of mice even on TV! and when we told the management to come and check it, they just threw some cheap poisons that won't even kill a fly! DO NOT EVER MOVE TO 219 BELL ST. N! ITS THE WORST IN OTTAWA!
Unhappy Tenant on 07/20/2011
219 is horrible, I have lived there since November, we have had infestation problems with cockroaches and i had found rat shit all over my broom stick when I swept.
These are very common problems along with bedbugs, and NOTHING IS DONE to take care of this.
I suggest you investigate or find more information about this building prior to even CONSIDERING on living here.
You will probably find information about the same subject which dates back to 2007 and this is a consistent problem th
at has not been addressed, and I can only imagine getting worse.
BEWWWAAAAAAREEE YOUR IN FOR A SCARE!!!

I live in the 219 building and my sister is in the process of moving to Ottawa from Vancouver. Naturally I told her to move here. In her research she came across this site. I'm shocked. I don't get what everyone's problem is. The management here is one of the most proactive in terms of pest control I've ever come across. A couple of months ago I got a notice from the office that they wanted to do a preventative pest inspection. I'd never heard of a landlord doing this before so I called the offi
ce. They told me some close to me reported a problem and they were being precautious. When the pest guy came he didn't find any live bed bug activity but he did find 1 dead bug by one of my baseboards. I have heard, read and watched 100s of horrible reports about the bed bug crisis being everywhere from 5 star hotels to public transit and because I have a 5 year old I was a little freaked by even having 1 dead one. I went to the office, when the guy was done, and spoke with the manager. She was very understanding and offered to schedule a preventative treatment for 2 days after. I've lived a lot of places and it's a rare thing to find a landlord who goes out of their way to not just treat the problem they know about but make sure there is a problem they dont know about. Most places will only treat one complaint at a time.

HA. Fairview Towers is a joke. I only wish I had known about this website before I moved here. This was my first apartment ever, and my first time in Ottawa. We've been living here for a year and the lease is up and we are moving. We had a problem with bed bugs during the winter after we moved in September of 2009. They tried to blame the bugs on us.. and when the rental agent called the exterminator, she goes, "hey, I got another one for you - yepp.. same building!" I guess our infestation wasn
't too bad because I just vacuumed really well, washed and bagged some clothes, and had to toss my mattress. I was hesitant about buying a new $400 mattress but what can you do? The man came to spray, it was winter time, and no one had told me all my animals had to leave as well. My animals and I are kicked to the lobby to sit and wait for 4 hours while he sprayed and the toxic fumes escaped enough for me to go back in. My cat and my rat and I had nowhere to go, yet the manager they have here at fairview towers comes in and starts screaming at me saying it's a fire hazard that I'm taking up that tiny bit of space in the lobby. She tried to kick us out into the snow. I told her she can go ahead and call the police. We haven't had a problem since but once we did think the bugs were back and we were perfectly prepared to say "screw you" and leave without paying.

219 Bell St. N is infested!
My roommate and I moved in to our apartment in June of 2009. Before the bedbug problems started or the mice started to call our apartment home, we realized that we were in trouble. Upon moving into the apartment there was a large knife shoved under the kitchen cuboards, mould in the washroom, the balcony window was broken, and there were black patches along the corners of the ceiling and floor boards....
We eventually realized that the black patches were bedbug egg
s.
My roommate and I are university students so we decided to stay home for the remainder of the summer and then move back in in late August.
Thanks to the two months that we gone and the work order we filled out the knife was gone, but every other thing not right in the apartment was still there.
Two months after moving in the bites started to occur. The bedbugs have infested everything.
Though I should sound more upset about the whole situation, I feel that it's my own damn fault for not asking the right questions before moving in, or asking people in the apartment building what they though about the place, or even checking out this site.

I found bedbugs in my apartment and reported it to the rental agent. My bed was so infested with them I had to throw it out. When I reported it to her she handed me a sheet of paper which was within reach (without having to even leave her desk) on what to do to prepare for my apartment to be sprayed. I got my apartment completely ready for it to be sprayed and let her know. She told me it would be sprayed two days after me giving her the sheet. Two days later, no one came. So I
let her know and for about two weeks she continued to tell me that they were coming the next day. The day they finally came, I was told that absolutely everything in my apartment had to be bagged. This was NOT on the sheet I was given, nor was I told this. So it got put off another couple days. She also lied and told other people that the exterminators had came on three seperate occasions and nothing was ready. Because of all this, I lived out of bags for a month. Even after the spray my apartment still has bugs.
Stay away from Fairview Towers.

Also, do not be fooled by the rental agent. She is very sneaky in that she will not willingly admit that there is any infestation of any kind, unless you confront her about it.
The management company's strategy in fighting this horrendous infestation is to call in pest control ONLY for select rooms (ONLY if you complain about bites from bugs, or show them the damage done by the bugs), and almost all of the time they will try their hardest to charge you for the costs. This building is infeste
d all the way to the top, and this is not a problem that will ever go away by selectively spraying a few rooms every few weeks.

I\'ve lived here for almost a year. In the summer of 2009 I had to throw out a lot of my stuff from the first infestation. $60 of laundry later, the management company didn\'t think they should share only the cost of the stuff I had to wash. Two months later and I have to throw out more stuff and prepare for another fumigation. Between all of this, I had to lay traps because they wouldnt come in and had to kill 5 mice on my own. My apartment is crazy clean, dishes are washed, no food is lef
t out or dropped....but yet this buildings infestation attacks everyone. DO NOT MOVE HERE!!!

I lived in this building for a year and we had bed bugs over 5 times!!!! The landlord wasn\'t understanding with us and said many people had the same problem and it was expensive for them to take care of... obviously she doesnt know what the tenants go through. Having bedbugs means you have to wash all of your clothes, bedding, and clean out your closets and dresser!!! not only time consuming but very expensive. They also neglected to inform us that after the spray you have to go through your bo
oks and all odds and ends to ensure they arent hiding and still living. Great more time that I dont have. Since they were finding them in the washers as well I had to walk to another laundry facility a few blocks down. This wasnt easy in the middle of December. AND unless you state that you want any certain room done they only spray certain ones... Thats smart, in turn we got them in the living room and all through the couch. If they had half a brain this matter would be taken care of but they are doing a half ass job in my opinion. I dont recommend anyone to live here and never will.

I lived on bell the year of \'08 and it was infested with bed bugs AND cockroaches. DO NOT MOVE INTO 219 BELL ST N!!!! (a.k.a FAIRVIEW TOWERS!)
It was about 3 months of living there that i started getting huge bites all over my arms, and found a little brown bug on my curtain hanging above my bed. Of course I freaked, and insisted my unit be sprayed, but my bitch of a roommate at the time hadn\'t had any bites, so she decided not to help get the apartment ready for spraying. I was over react
ing she says. Needless to say the problem continued on, and i ended up throwing every piece of furniture i had out almost all my clothes and bedding, and moved asap. I don\'t do bugs well. All I can hope now is that the problem didn\'t follow me. It\'s been 4 months and i haven\'t had a single bite of any kind, and check the mattress encasement once a day.

This entire building has bedbugs. That's not to say that every single apartment is infested, but I know for sure that different apartments on different levels have them. They were also found in the washers and dryers onsite. We've had them for fall and winter 08', and now spring 09'. They will come in and do sprays, but they sometimes ask YOU to pay for it.
