My friend told me about this site so icame on to see. I've lived at 201 for around 4 years and never had a problem with any kind of bug, but am sure that if idid it would get taken care of cause any time i need something fixed it's always done right away. And let me just say...anyone who claims to have bedbugs for a year clearly didnt say anything to the office, prolly cause its their fault for bringing them and if you bring them, i don't think having to pay is unfair. If you make a problem,

you fix it. Bedbugs don't travel like roaches. If you got them, you either brought them or someone close to you did and said nothing.

THE LAST PERSON WHO POSTED THIS REPORT ABOUT THE HEARTLESS, RUDE AND UNCIVILIZED PROPERTY MANAGER of Bell Terrace (201, 211, and 219) hit the nail on the head. I echo all her comments. The weapon Kathy uses on tenants is intimidation. The moment you drag with her, she threatens you with the Landlord and Tenant Board, forgetting that the judges there are sensible, reasonable and will listen to both sides of the story. She even extorts money from tenants, especially when she notices you dont know

the law, particularly new immigrants. THE THREE BUILDINGS (201, 211, 219 Bell st N) SMELL TERRIBLY, ESPECIALLY IN THE SUMMER. THIS IS THE WORST TIME OF THE YEAR IN THE RAT, ROACH AND BEDBUG-INFESTED APARTMENT BUILDINGS. IF THEY ARE GOING TO SHOW YOU AN APPARTMENT, THEY WOULD QUICKLY GO AND DUMP SOME CHEMICALS TO SUPPRESS THE ODOUR. ONCE YOU SIGN THE LEASE, YOU ARE HOOKED.WHEN YOU GIVE NOTICE TO VACATE AT THE END OF YOUR TENANCY, THEY MAKE IT DIFFICULT FOR YOU TO VACATE THE UNIT, THEY WILL EVEN THREATEN YOU WITH ORDER FROM LANDLORD AND TENANT BOARD. UNFORTUNATELY MANY TENANTS DONT EVEN KNOW THEIR RIGHTS. THE THREE BUILDINGS ARE MORE THAN HALF-EMPTY. EVERYDAY I SEE PEOPLE MOVE OUT, SOME EVEN BREAKING THEIR LEASE. LEAVING THERE IS HELL, LET ALONE THE RUDE AND WORST PROPERTY MANAGER YOU CAN FIND IN OTTAWA. I WONDER IF THEY EVER TRAINED HER BEFORE HIRING HER?? DOES ANYONE KNOW??

My boyfriend and I moved into 201 Bell street north in the beginning of 2011, and at first eveything seemed great. Then maybe 3 months after living there we started having problems with water; them shutting it off without any notice, water pressure problems so severe that the water would be calm one moment and then shoot out violently hard the next. And then came the bugs. I had heard from other tenants that there was a severe bug problem in the building, the tenant downstairs from us had bedbugs

for over a year and her own colony of cockroaches.

When we made or first complaint, they sent maintanance into our apartment to put some cheap treatment in our kitchen. A few weeks later, we found even more bugs then the first time, and when we complained about it, the woman who works at the front desk gave us the lame excuse of "after treatments the bugs tend to move around, after this there shouldn't be a problem anymore" ... yet we kept find more and more bugs... It got so bad that we had cockroach incidents 7 times in the month after the treatments... I even woke up with one on my arm one morning... my freaking arm.

So after that happened I went back to the office, and was telling the girl at the desk what happened, and Kathy Bartkowski (the proporty manger)came to "talk" to me about it. She very rudley told me that they were NOT going to come back into our unit to do anymore treatments, and she even said, and I quote : "It's not that big of a deal" , She was purposley trying to intitmidate me, and it worked, I got very nervous and felt attacked as she continued to belittle our bug problem. Of course being very heated after being told my bug problem is 'not a big deal" I told Kathy that she is the worst proporty manager I have ever met in my life, and angrily left the office.

A week later we recieved a letter in our mailbox saying that due to the fact I am only on the lease as a co- habitant, (my boyfriend was the leasee not me) and that the management deserves to work in a peaceful atmosphere , I was no longer allowed in the office for any reason. I guess Kathy's peaceful atmosphere is more important then the tenants who pay money to live in the building.

We have continued to have bug issues, and water issues, even today as I write this we have had no hot water all day and it is already 8:30 pm!! Please if you are reading this DO NOT MOVE INTO ANY OF THESE BUILDING ON BELL STREET NORTH, 201,211 AND 219. If you know anyone who is planning on moving into one of these buildings called either FAIRVIEW TOWERS or BELL TERRACE, strongly advise that they DO NOT move into this building!!

I have also personally witnessed Kathy Bartkowski yelling at tenants in the lobby in front of other tenants about private issues concerning them an they're apartment. She lacks manners, profesionalism, competance and a heart.

To be honest, bed bugs and roaches are not the only problem of this building, the real problem is the extremely poor customer service and condecending attitude of the so called property manager/director called Kathy of the buildings 201, 211, and 219 Bell St north. Its so bad that you hear people talk about her inside the elevator. For your own good, stay away!!! look for apartment elsewhere. About three tenants on our building have repeatedly mentioned their ordeal with her, including how they

dragged her to Landlord and Tenancy Board, and the Board ordered that they should be compensated/refunded.

While my unit doesn't have bed bugs there are at least a couple of units nearby that do. I've been spraying raid around the baseboards, doorway, in the cupboards, etc. twice a day to try to keep them out. I've had them before and the horrible property manager Kathy made me pay for it but I didn't bring it in. They just threaten to kick you out and take it out of your deposit. The other comments here are mostly true. The building is poorly managed and maintained. They always have people mak

ing the lobby look nice to attract new renters but once they get past the lobby the place looks like it hasn't been touched since the 70s. Same paint, same carpet, etc. Not only bed bugs there are roaches too. Roaches the building will pay to clean up but they come back very often.

I have not had begbugs, but the units around me do and I fear it's just a matter of time. I also don't have the 600 dollars that they want you to pay for treatment of your unit, even though it's their issue. The maintenance people come in unannounced and without leaving notice; the roaches are everywhere. There has been hot water issues for three months now. I have ONE piece of parquet up on my floor and they want to charge me 800 dollars for it. The woman who runs this place (Kathy Bartowsky) c

annot be spoken to or reasoned with. Work orders take months to fill. Even the girl who takes your rent is pretty rude.

Avoid living here at all costs. I'm getting out ASAP - but all these charges they seem to give leaving tenants makes me worry I won't be able to cover my new place.

Also, don't try to complain to the head company. They don't care either.

I never encountered bedbugs in my unit, but there was an INSANE roach infestation on my floor. I used to work tirelessly cleaning my place every other day to keep them at bay, but after a while they were showing up in every room at all times of day, getting bolder and bolder. I never reported it because I, too, heard stories about invasive, unannounced visits and the management blaming the tenants for bug problems and trying to charge them extra or change their rental agreements around. Plus, th

e one and only time I ever DID report a maintenance problem, a worker came in unannounced and I didn't even realize it until the next day when I noticed some stuff had been moved around... CREEPY!

OH, and speaking of charging extra: THESE PEOPLE STOLE AN ENTIRE MONTHS' RENT FROM ME! Due to really poor organization and failure to communicate, they ended up collecting rent for my last month living there twice... when I asked for a refund, they would not give me any money back until they had done an inspection on the place, which I figured was fair enough considering I knew there was a few spots of minor damage on the floor. Weeks later, after having to call multiple times and leave a few messages about the hundreds of dollars they owe me, I finally reached the landlord (KATHY BARTKOWSKI.... absolute SHARK, this woman) and she informed me that they had gone ahead and redone the ENTIRE floor of my unit, at my expense and were "still waiting for the invoice".

By the way... these units are all done with parquet flooring, which is specifically designed to make it easy to fix spot damages without having to replace the entire floor AND they have live-in maintenance staff who get paid all year round for that kind of stuff... so it's not like they had to hire some 3rd-party contractor to fix the floors, nor did they have to order out for more floor materials. There is no way in hell that I did an entire months' rent worth of damage to that apartment, yet they're holding my money hostage. Still have not heard any news about how much of my refund I'll get back... assuming they didn't spend the entire thing on unnecessary renovations!

AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE THAT IT IS!

This is the worst apartment to live in, in the whole city of Ottawa. Don't be fooled by the ads online!! There are always bugs even if you keep your apartment spotless. There are always people coming into your unit unannounced to conduct 'preventative bug control' I came home on 2 separate occasions to find my place turned upside down after they performed a bug inspection...it looked like my place was robbed, sheets off my bed, cushions off my couch, dvd tower knocked over and broken. The staff

often causes damage to your property during their visits and it takes forever to get your problem solved (over 2 months and 15 e-mails last time)
We once didn't have hot water for 2 weeks in the middle of winter and didn't see any form of reimbursement even though hot water is included in the monthly rent you pay. Also the elevators never work, there are constant power-outages, and the entrance smells like rotten yogurt all the time.

DO NOT MOVE HERE!!!!!

By seeing the locality and the areas surroundings, I preferred this apartment and planned to live for a long period atleast a year. But, soon we take the apartment we started getting the problems of Rats and Bedbugs. The other main problem is the Management, the management wont take action on any of the complaints you make about bugs or rats. Moreover they ask you to get the Rat kill treatment from stores. Bed bugs are sooo horrible, I got infection with them, and the management was telling that

I got the Begbugs which is not possible at all, as I flew to Canada with only a single bag with Office files.
I agree, that Problems can be there in any apartments, but the way to deal the issue makes the difference. Here the management wont listen to you. They have only 2 employees working for 200 units.
1 MONTH FREE RENT - This is another joke with this apartment. When I was coming to apartment, management told that if I pay the rent before 1st of every month, I could the 11th month free. I felt soo happy and was paying the rent regularly. One day on my 9th month of stay, I received a letter from Management, we found that you are not mainintaing apartment clean and also with Rats, so we are not going to give one month OFF on the 11th month. I am surprised, when and how the Management came to my apartment for inspections. This makes me to think that they unlock my door sometimes and come with out notice. This is too bad. I decided to vacate the apartemtn even before 1 month to get rid of all these tensions.
PLLLLLLLEEEAAASSEEEE DO NOT GO TO THIS APARTMENT AT ALL.... Until unless you decide to face RBM problems (Rats, Bedbugs, Management) :-)

I just viewed an apartement here last week. The apartment I saw was newly renovated and gorgeous. I'm planning to move in January 1 and I'm very excited. This place seems so amazing. The day I went to see the apartment they were throwing a holiday party for all the tenants. The lobby was decorated, there was a buffet set up with what looked like the staff serving and Santa was there handing out treats to all the kids and posing for photos. I stayed a bit after my appointment to talk to some of t

he tenants and I heard nothing but good things about the building and staff.

I had bedbugs for a year at 201 and it was the worst experience of my life. I never went to the office because of the horror stories that other people had (the landlord was making them pay for everything, humiliating them in the lobby etc.) so I just moved and it was the best decision of my life.

After finding weird marks on the sheets and red marks all over my arms and legs, I realized I had bed bugs. They had come through the walls, and into my apartment on the 11th floor. Naturally, I complained to the management. They had someone who worked for the building come and spray some chemicals on my bedframe but that was it. They didn't go away until I had invested months of effort and hundreds of dollars out of my own pocket. The management tried to convince me that I had brought the bugs,

but that is impossible. I'm sure it's no coincidence that I see a pest removal company truck parked outside the building at least once a month. Absolutely horrible experience. I'm getting out of here as soon as I can!

August 2009: Found my small Bedbug problem grew and grew until I had to contact my building manager. She makes me pay for the spraying because she informs me that I must have brought them in or had someone who visited bring them in. This really isn't possible given the situation I'm in at the moment. Anyways, I asked around and my neighbors have all informed me that this building is completely infested and not only are the bottom floors full of them but they have been seen in the laundry room as

well. Also, the building beside us has their bugs sneaking in. All of the apartments along at the end of the building have bed big problems and when this was relayed to management, they told me I must be mistaken. Welcome to the Towers!

I'm getting Bedbugs from this building and I live on the top floor. Get out while you can, I've had mice, homeless scary people and now Bedbugs. Also make sure to review your leases before you sign them because they sneak something in where you have to pay for pest control, even if you get pests from their building.
