BED BUGS present in building elevators, hallways, apts & common areas. So digusted, fed-up & mad!!!
steve on 03/01/2012
Not suprising at all... Timbercreek has a long history of dishonesty which is easily searchable via google. I would reccomend filing for a rent abatement with the tenancy board, if the problem had been ongoing for a period of time you could get quite a bit of money. Trying to work out a resolution is always best but with the types of David Boushey at the helm you might as well forget it. (he used to work for transglobe)

I believe this is a sincere plea to landlords everywhere:
The apartment building bedbug problem again should be addressed immediately, with bedbug search dogs being brought in with the specialists to find and destroy all the bedbugs in the whole building as the bedbugs continue to move back and forth between apartments via by persons or through the walls, etc. The residents should be accommodated for this problem, all moved out if the problem can never be eradicated, to another bedbug free loca
tion. No one also wants these bugs to be spread to their homes and apartments by the residents who live here. And the company in charge of the building who is renting to the residents should be accountable for this ongoing problem, and should be sued if nothing is done to get rid of the problem. The building is indeed old and it may be time to tear it down to build a new residence for the current tenants like they have done to another building on Booth Street.
Care about your residents, DON'T IGNORE THEM and SPREAD THE PROBLEM TO OTHER PEOPLE AND BUILDINGS AND HOMES!!!!!!!!!!

135 York St and 145 York street are the same building owned by Timbercreek. The address is different, because years ago there were offices on the 2nd floor, which were converted into apartments. They are advertising their apartments as 135 because of all the bedbug reports, and 145 York comes-up when you google it, but 135 doesn't. Smart, but really sneaky. Good one, Timbercreek.

I moved-out of the building a year ago, but it had been 2 years since I saw a bedbug, and then in January 2010, I found 3 at my door, stuck in the double-sided tape I had placed there. Bedbugs can survive for 18 months up to 2 years without feeding, and with the botch job that Timbercreek did, by not treating the whole building, and not telling the tenants, but actually denying it, I would not be surprised if they are still there. In fact, I would probably guarantee it. Timbercreek needs to put
their money into treating the problem professionally, instead of throwing it away on unnecessary renovations, and super intendant Caesar Gray is a liar, who needs to be removed from the building.
Worried on 02/16/2011
It's been 5 months since the last posting. Have the bedbugs been exterminated, or are they still present? What floors were they found on, and how widespread? Was it just a couple of units? Thanks!

I am a current long-time tenant, and can attest to the fact that bedbugs are present. I have also had many personal affronts by Mr. Caesar Gray. He is a horrible and very mean-spirited, little man who will only show his true colours when you ask him to do some actual work. The management is an 'asset management' company who only acquires buildings to line their pockets. They do not respond when you email or call, Caesar will be the one to 'help' you, if he cares to. Most of the time, he will not
.

I am the one who made the petition for this address and I hadn't seen a bedbug since May of 2008.I've been using a highly toxic bedbug spray every couple of days under my door, along with using a huge piece of weather-stripping to seal it. I just had a confrontation with Caesar today and he ran at my boyfriend aggressively and looked like he wanted to fight him. I just sprayed a half-hour ago, and when my boyfriend came home from work, I was putting the weather-stripping back under the door, and
there was a fucking bedbug!! Isn't that a coincidence? They are still here... I have been harassed and threatened by both Caesar and Drew--Timbercreek does nothing and continues to employ these two assholes. Even the man who sprayed from Cote Pest Solutions called me a paranoid bitch. Now they want to raise the rents above the 4% guideline? Are you kidding me? Please be warned and check your apartments very carefully. Sign the petition again so we can get rid of the bugs and the biggest pest of all--Caesar!

Guaranteed they are there. I lived in those apartments. It started on my floor (7th) a few years ago. Is it under control? Who knows with the botch extermination job they did. Spraying only a few floors and a few units does NOT get rid of them. Rather, they only spread faster as the problem is not contained.
Do not be fooled by the newly renovated lobby or apartments. In fact, the only reason why they renovated the entire 3rd (or 2nd I cannot remember) floor was because there was a fire! You
should have seen the place! No one was even granted access to this floor while I was living there.

Oh my gosh. I just typed the address "145 York, Ottawa" in google to see what info would come up about the building and I found this!
Im supposed to sign the lease tomorrow!! It is for the 10th floor. Does anybody know if this problem has been fully resolved?? I think I wont be signing that lease tomorrow, but im just curious and wanted to know if the problem is still there or not?

I contacted Timbercreek about this issue and they provided the following response:
Thank you for your email concerning 145 York Street. There have been issues in the past, however, please be assured that past issues have been dealt with and we continue to be proactive in our approach. We continually perform monthly pest control throughout the common areas of the buildings and respond to any insuite concerns immediately.

I al
so spoke to a couple of tenants living in the building and they said they were aware of the past issues but they did not and do not have a problem. They believed it was fairly contained at the time. They both said it was a great place to live. They also mentioned it was under new ownership/management since the past problems and had been undergoing a great deal of cleaning and renovation.
Maybe the problem is resolved!

I would also like to know what month HLE saw the bugs return to her apt. I haven't seen any since last May, and am extremely concerned, because I'm only a floor below... I thought they were gone! If I could afford to move-out I would have done it by now. To the person who's supposed to be moving-in this May--don't, save yourself the trouble and constant worrying of having this infestation ruin your life. The rent's are outrageous anyway.

I would like to know what was meant in the previous post by "A year later, I am back in my apartment, and although the bugs did return, they were dealt with in a professional and timely manner". Are you saying after being out of your apartment for a year, you returned and the bugs were still there or returned and had to be dealt with again while you were in the unit? What is the current status.......are the bug there or not?! This is very concerning as I am suppose to move to the 7th floor in
May!
Come on! on 03/13/2009
In response to the below comment, I have to disagree tremendously with how you view Caesar Gray. He is about as fake as they come, and does not care about the tenants. If you believe he does, then you are as gullible as most other people who get along with him. Are you aware that the tenant who was responsible for the infestation, Mr. McCarthy, was allowed to move back in, last October? He is currently on the 8th floor, on the opposite side of his old apt. on the 7th. His son, who also lived in
the building, but who does not now, still regularly visits him. It is only a matter of time that the bed bugs make their appearance known again. Protect yourself, and don't believe that the management or Caesar have your best interest at heart, because they do not. Sorry.

I currently live in the building and can attest to the fact that the problem did start in apartment 706. Living adjacent to that apartment, I saw first hand the deplorable conditions of the unit, and the tenent deemed responsible has left the premises. While the infestation affected me, tremendously, I do not feel that resident manager Caesar Grey is to blame by any means. In fact, he made sure I was relocated to another apartment as soon as I showed proof of the bugs so that my apartment could
be all but fumigated without any harm to me. While I was forced to pay half my rent for the month I was directly affected, this was entirely out of Mr. Grey's control, and the landlord who was supposed to deal with the building's concerns has been fired due to his negligence. A year later, I am back in my apartment, and although the bugs did return, they were dealt with in a professional and timely manner. Exterminators can throw all they have at these critters, but they are just too hearty, and could likely survive an atomic bomb. I am not going to say I recommend moving into the seventh floor, but I am saying that the problem that was here, and may still be here, is being dealt with to the best of the building's abilities. Having lived here for years, I can tell you that Caeser Grey does all he can to keep his tenants, whom he views as friends, as comfortable as possible, taking great strides to accommodate requests and concerns above and beyond those which would be expected of a resident manager.

Many floors are infected but residents are isolated when/if they report the situation and are labelled "trouble maker" by the superintendant, Ceasar Grey.
Although we have not seen any bugs in our unit,my boyfriend and I are on the alert after talking to so many tenants with the problem. We are planning to move out before we become victims of an incompetent management who omitted to tell us of this situation when we moved in.Timbercreek should look twice at who they put in charge of their buildi
ngs if they care about their reputation.

The bedbug's apparently originated in unit #706 at 145 York Street, Ottawa, ON, and had been there for at least a year, according to pest control, due to it being "the worst case I've seen in 3 years", but had not been reported, either by fear, stupidity, or just plain irresponsibility. I am aware of at least 7 relocations to other apartments, and some of those people have suffered horribly.
Management has not informed anyone of this situation, and have let the tenants come to them if they've e
ncountered any. I was told I was the only one to complain, and yet I've heard horror stories of what others have had to deal with for at least 6 months before I even encountered a single bug! Who knows how many other tenants have been affected? If everyone who complained was told they were the only one, and they've kept the situation under wraps, so as to avoid others finding out, there could be millions of bedbugs running through the walls on every floor, along pipes and electrical wiring, only to be displaced to another section of the building when one unit is sprayed.
I have enclosed the link to an online petition created to have as many people affected by this, and anyone who would like the owners of 145 York Street to be accountable, and do everything in their power to combat the bugs, so we may be able to sleep in peace again, if ever...
