Lots of problems with bed bugs in my apartment. 1535 alta vista is full of bed bugs, ants, silverfish and cockroaches. Even though Lucy does complain a lot about the building it is true that the bug problems are out of control. The needs to be a mass spraying of the entire building. The landlord did respond quickly to have my apt sprayed but the bugs came back. There are so many apts that are infested with bugs that the bugs move from apt to apt. I have seen a lot of tenants bringing furniture i

n from the garbage and this will make the bed bug problem even worse.

I had encounted the same problem twice. I live on the 12th floor for a while now. I reported this to the Manager and he told me that he has never heard of this before. If there are all these appartments infested, he was just too lazy to tell the other tenants which I think is wrong to do. Also, he made us pay 270$ for the pest control, when Health Canada said that it's the landlords' responsibility. Don't let them make you pay! It's not your fault. We had bed bugs the first time and got it spray

ed once. They came to inspect it two weeks later and they said that they found NOTHING twice. I am pretty sure when you wake up to bugs beside you that I have something in my bed. After they sprayed it, I felt relieved but still felt uneasy. After 3 weeks after the initial spray, they came back. I am so frustrated and I don't recommand anyone living here! Look somewhere else!!

Hi Adam,

we were on the same floor, but not direct neighbours... you lived at the other end of the hall from me. I'm so sorry to hear of what you went through and that you had to resort to sleep on a glass coffee table... That must not have been comfortable. However,I'm glad to hear that you were able to move without bringing the little bloodsuckers with you and that I was able to do the same.

I went to great care to dispose of anything carefully so as not to spread them, but I think you a

re right, they did spread from unit to unit for that is how I got mine, from the person below me. I will agree though, the superintendent was helpful and did all he could to help straighten it out. I believe he was even working to get his PCO, and he was very informative in the process.

I find it highly unfair that they did not warn the neighbouring units to mine, or at least signal that they were going to do an inspection (from what I hear, that is what one should do should one apartment unit be infested and precautionary treat the units directly beside/below/above the infected one.

I'm grateful for this site if it helps others at least be aware as they shop around, regardless of it being an apartment, condo, or even a hotel room.

We were in 1704- 1535 alta vista drives so pretty close to 1714. Us ourselves had only moved in December and we were gone after months of complaining to them once the next december came around. it was disgusting and the neighbours didnt help, they left there trash schute full of garbage laying on the ground and our apartment was right next to the schute ewwwwww.

Hi,

I had bed bugs in 1535. My apartment number was 1714 (floor 17). From the description and the date of the post I believe I was "Braye's" neighbour (see the previous comments). I had many conversations with the superintendent at the time which confirmed this.

From all I learned, what happened was that they sprayed Braye's apartment, which caused the bugs to retreat into my apartment, which was separated only by some thin, permeable drywall. Check for it the next time you rent.

Th

e landlord did not tell me at the time that my neighbour was infested with bugs and that I was at risk. I seriously doubt they told the people who moved in after me. To their detriment, they didn't bother to ask me.

To the landlord's credit though, they were fairly prompt and vigilante about treating the problem. From the other posts on this site (1525, 1535, 1545) I guessed they had learned their lesson. They set up detectors and checked them every week or two. They came up positive, meaning the bugs were gone.

They sprayed my baseboards with pesticides and put "dust" in the electrical outlets. They only did that once, but it smelled bad for days, and no doubt contributed to the tumor I'll eventually develop.

I found that isolating yourself from your stuff was good preventive measure. The less places bugs have to hide, the less likely they are to nest next to you. I spent the last two months in this apartment sleeping on a glass topped coffee table (glass is hard for bugs to climb) in the middle of the living room, vacuuming and doing laundry twice a week, which sucks!

I didn't find any evidence of bugs (bites, blood spots on sheets, dead bodies, etc.) for the last month I was there which is the good news of this story. To date I have not found evidence they have moved with me.

If I find them again though I plan on doing similar things. Separate your bed from the rest of your things; give them less places to hide. Vacuum, do laundry and clean twice a week. Remember they are just bugs, you are smarter than them.

Good luck to anybody living in 1535 through, you have my sympathies.

Former tenant,
Adam

We experienced bed bugs in our 1535 Alta Vista apartment earlier this year (March or April 2010). Pest patrol did spray twice and the bugs have seemed to have disappeared. We've seen pest patrol around the building multiple times since our incident,so we know we're definitely not the only ones. We had to throw out all our furniture and mark them, and cut them up so that no one would attempt to bring them back into the building. We now have special bed bug matress protectors and have not bothered

to purchase new furniture until we move out, out of fear they will reappear. Not exactly the best way to live
:( I will say that the office acted quickly to solve the problem, nonetheless I definitely don't recommend living here.

I have been living here for 5 years and have discovered my bed bug infestation a month ago. I don't wish to give out my apartment number, but I'll say the floor number, which is 17.

They sprayed and did the usual follow-up; however, they did not want to spray a 2nd time... Something to do with federal law not allowing them to unless they find anything; however, I searched the Health Canada site etc etc and no where does it state that it's illegal to spray twice... luckily my infestation was

small and having gotten rid of the bed seems to have helped... but a month later and I'm waking up to marks again... they are coming to inspect on Tuesday, but if I don't find a specimen, I fear that they won't spray the place down... I even offered to pay it out of my pocket just to have them spray regardless.

When inquiring about who else had an infestation in the past year... the response was "no one"; however, the tenant directly below me got in touch with me to advise me that they had an infestation earlier in the year and that they got it from the unit below them... Pest control denied it saying the person was a little loopy, but I think I believe the person who contacted me...

I have done all the preparation and still living in that way, vacuuming twice a week, and even caulked everywhere where baseboard meets floor... but noticed in one of the closets that the hard wood laminate wasn't warnished in one spot and the cracks are rather large... might caulk that too as a temporary means...

All I know is that I'm living in airtight bins and ziplock bags and I'm looking to move out and hopefully will not bring the pests with me.

So far, as we know, all the three building, 1545, 1535, and 1525 have problems with bed bugs. Be aware about this issue if you want to rent a apartment in any of these three buildings.

In response to comments from "Apple", what was not mentioned was the fact that her parents were seen bringing a used, discarded (and obviously infested) mattress into the building from outside. Mattresses are thrown outside for a reason - they are meant for garbage...leave the garbage outside and don't put the lives of all of us tenants in jeopardy. These bugs spread through the entire building, as they fall from the mattress while you delinquents bring someone else's crap inside, often dragging

it on the carpets, then loading it into the elevators where everyone else travels...thanks!

I am writing this report to remind people looking for an apartment in this building, there are BED BUGS in this building.

I just moved in this building in June, however, I found bed bugs in my unit (at 7th floor) in August.

Based on my experience, it is not FUN at all. So when you encounter bed bugs, be perpared for long-term frustration and more. Since the first time I noticed I have bed bugs in my apartment, I wake up always around 2 or 3am to check my bed where there are bugs on the mat

tress.

The problem with the apartments owned by Paramount is they do not leave one-month gap between the old tenant moving out and the new one moving in. It is always a back-to-back move. Especially, they do not wash the carpet with shampoo, and they do wax hard-wood floor if you do not complain.

So if you do not want to see bed bugs, please do not come to this building.
