Going Buggy on 01/07/2010
We received confirmation (finally) on October 25, 2009 that our problem was bedbugs. I had been being bitten since the end of July. I asked the exterminator on his regular rounds to check for bedbugs in September, after another tenant posted signs saying that they had them, and he said there weren't any. A month later, my wife caught one crossing the bed. We then found a whole nest of them in our box spring. We later found out two other apartments had had them, including our next door neighbors
(Apt. 5E - we are in 5D). Last month, the tenant from 6E came down and asked questions - they thought they had them. A couple of weeks ago, that was verified. I believe that makes 2E, 4E, 5E, 6E and us in 5D that have had a problem.
We have now had three treatments. PCO says they are confined to our bedroom, but my daughter had also been bitten, we think. We have been living with all of our possessions in plastic bags, according to the PCO's instructions, for over two months. PCO couldn't say where they came from (no clear trail). The walls, maybe?
Can't believe I went as a bedbug for Halloween 3 yrs ago... on 10/07/2009
My boyfriend and I discovered bedbugs in the apt we moved into 4 months ago in Brooklyn, NY (25 Eastern Parkway, apt 2E). We found them on our boxspring, with a trail of them and their excrement leading to an electrical outlet near the bed. Another tenant told me that the apt 2 floors above ours (apt 4E) had them "not too long ago". We notified the building manager, but did not receive any reply for 8 days, in which time we replaced our bed, bought bedbug spray, and began hot washing/drying and
bagging all of our clothing, bedding, towels etc. The reply we finally received was a copy of 11 steps to take to prepare for bedbug treatment from metropest control, slid under our door. We hurriedly followed the instructions, and I took 2 days off from work to get it expedited before we left for long-planned trips. We have spent over $1000, and must keep ALL of our things bagged for 6 wks as they will need to follow up. Also they aren't treating any other apts though they are in the walls! We are stressed, sleep deprived, and seriously put out.
