A neighbor reported bed bugs some time after he first noticed them and had left his mattress in the communal hallway. His apartment was treated. We noticed suspicious bites and thoroughly treated our apartment. The landlord paid for this, and we insisted on finding our own exterminators as the company that regularly serviced the building seemed to not know what they were doing. treated as well. The problem is that the building has 21 units and no effort was made to treat the whole building. (Most tenants would not open their doors to the exterminators anyway-- even after we informed everyone of the potential problem). I will note that we only ever saw one bug, which was only confirmed as a bed bug by internet photo comparisons.
