This building has two apartments. There is no ground floor. The staircase leads directly up to the second floor which has one apartment and the next staircase leads to the third floor which contains the other apartment.
I moved into a vacant room for rent on the third floor apartment in May. I found it through craigslist and had to move ASAP so I didn't have many options. It looked clean enough but I didn't thoroughly inspect it before I moved in.
In late June I started to notice strange
looking bugs here and there. I thought they were just really large ticks and attributed them to the cat in the apartment. I was highly upset but then the bugs were out of sight out of mind... until the other day when I was finally able to kill one.
The way it looked close up in addition to the amount of blood that came out was just not right so yesterday I started researching online and now I know the apt. is infested with bed bugs and that they've probably been feeding on me since I moved in but I hadn't been paying close enough attention. When I woke in the morning I noticed bug bites in the form of little red dots so I knew there were probably many more where that came from.
I spent all last night cleaning out the room and throwing away a lot of belongings and slept on a chair in the middle of the room for just two hours before I got ready for work. I will give the landlord written notice of the complaint today. As a website suggested I caught a bed bug on sticky tape for proof. The nasty thing managed to crawl off and I luckily found it trying to get away and caught it again along with a giant dead one that I'll use for evidence as well.
I had seen the occasional roach in the apt. but while cleaning last night I also discovered ants and ticks. This is so sickening. I've been living here not knowing how many unwanted roommates I had in my bed and all my things.
I will have to wait until the extermination is complete before I move so that I don't bring any bed bugs or eggs along with me. I don't know how long this will take. But this residence definitely needed to be listed as Bed Bug Infested - roach infested - ant infested - AND tick infested. My skin will be crawling everyday as I desperately attempt to rid my clothes and belongings of these nasty blood sucking bugs.
