This building (465 ocean parkway - I live in apt 1D) is very dirty to begin with - I'm sure if the city actually inspected this building in its entirely that it would be condemned. When I moved in, current residents informed me that there were rodent infestations.
One day, in May 2010, I was scratching my arm and someone sitting next to me a coffee shop asked me if I had bed bugs. They said the bites on my arm resembled the bites they had when they had bed bugs. I went home, started doin

g research and checked my bed with a flashlight, but was still unsure. Early the next morning, I checked again and found a bed bug.
I had the exterminators come within the week (the management company did a fairly good job arranging that). I washed everything I owned as I was directed and bagged everything in garbage bags. I wiped down all of my furniture with bleach and all of my non-clothing/linen items with bleach as well. When the exterminator came he said it was not an infestation and I caught it early. I bought mattress and box spring encasements from bed bath and beyond and slowly put all of my things back in the room. I still checked my bed with a flashlight at least 1x a day for 2 weeks.
I started sleeping in the bed again, but started getting bites again in mid-June. I started checking the bed again and since then have found and killed 5 more bed bugs. The management company has not been quick to respond to this pressing issue. I sleep on my recliner in the living room and live out of bags. I have spent about $500 so far on cleaning and prepping my room.
The management company claims they have not had any other bed bug complaints, but the exterminating company told me that they have made many visits to this building to deal with bed bugs. Though, I haven't checked with 311 to verify.
I don't know if this is something that just happened or if its the poor maintenance of the building, but I would suggest living elsewhere if you have the ability. I am moving out within the next month - too many horrible things have happened to me here.
