We moved in to his building on Oct 1 2009. Before we moved in the landlord assured us the bed bug problem was never in our prospective apartment and that the problem in the building was resolved. We also called the Pest control company they use and they said they had never treated our apartment. This turned out to be untrue as our days there unfolded. The first night we slept there I was bitten. After a week we found a large adult bed bug. We contacted the landlord and they responded by using Green Earth pest control which they had used in the past. We bagged and washed all of our belongs, vacuumed religiously and basically lived out of bags and continued to get bitten with NO resolve. We contacted the landlord and told them the problem was worsening and that they needed to treat again, they deferred us to the pest control company who said what we were seeing was nymphs and that we needed to vacuum more. This obviously was a complete farce because we were seeing LARGE and MANY adult bed bugs crawling on our couch, walls and curtains and bathroom floor. We have done research that shows that vacuuming is not effective in treating and eliminating bed bugs and that there needs to be comprehensive treatment. Green Earth only used residual sprays and left the rest to us, to bag and wash everything. Which was not working. We then kept hassling the landlord and pest control company, they then stated to us"off the record" that the reason behind the ineffective treatment was that the landlord couldn't afford comprehensive treatment. Since the day we moved in we had bed bugs. The woman on the phone at the 102 Albemarle associates office whom I assume is the Landlord told us specifically that there had never been a bedbug problem in our apartment. I NEED TO MAKE THIS STATEMENT CLEAR. SHE SAID THERE HAD NEVER BEEN BED BUGS THERE, EVER. After not having the bed bug problem treated we had no choice but to vacate the apartment. My wife is pregnant and suffering severe reactions to the bites with swelling and joint pain and my infant son was getting bitten.During the month of January we were asked if we could show the apartment to prospective tenants, we declined because we felt it was inhumane and was totally wrong on so many levels. They had totally disregarded the fact that they needed to take care of this serious bed bug issue in our apartment. On January 31st 2009 the super requested us to return the keys because they had new tenants moving in. I assume these New tenants have no idea the apartment has bedbugs. Also I want to add that the people who occupied the apartment before us were in still living in the building up stairs in a new apartment and when we were moving out they asked us why we were moving and we told them it was because of bed bugs. It was then that we learned that when they lived in our apartment they also had bed bugs, this completely contradicts the landlords statement when she told us that the apartment had never had them. She lied to us, and 102 Albemarle associates uses dishonest business practices and I would warn anyone who is thinking of moving in to this building DON'T DO IT. You will only suffer immensely. We also learned that many of our neighbors have had bed bugs and we are sure that the problem is systemic. They kept our deposit and stole thousands of dollars from us in rent we should have never paid because we were lied to. No to mention the hundreds and thousands of dollars we had to spend to move, wash and bag all of our stuff and the only resolve was to VIKANE. Which is very costly. We did our part and they decided to screw us. DO NOT MOVE IN TO THIS BUILDING. BEWARE.

To respond to 2nd person below my comment. Your comment about a dirty tenant infesting an apartment is completely wrong. Bed Bugs do not discriminate against any one's living habits, race, sexuality or gender. Bed Bugs are a MAJOR problem occurring all over New York city and many other major cities in the US because of the close proximity that people live near one another and the fact that there are so many people. Many people have bed bugs and may now know it, certain people react to the bites while others show no signs at all. If you find out that another person has them in your building, you should care and know that you may be at risk. Taking the proper steps and following guidelines from your landlord will help, BUT there is no gaurantee that you won't ever get them. Bed Bugs are very resourceful they can travel to search for a blood meal and they can live for up to 18 months with out feeding. learn the facts and WE should all work together to follow Bedbug Guidelines and not point fingers at one another. Knowledge is power.

There are no bed bugs in this building. I live here forever and If there were any its not managements fault a dirty tenant infested it. This is a quiet building and problems like these are taken care of asap.

There were reports about bed bugs in the building, so I checked this site, however I have not bedbugs in my unit. Also when I contacted the management about the problem, they were aware. I hope I don't get bed bugs.

My experience with any other management issues in the building has been good. The super is on top of issues and even aggressive in responding, so I feel comfortable that any major issue such as bed bugs will indeed be taken care of well too.

Two elderly tenants in this building were recently hospitalized (August 2009) because of severe bites all over their bodies. Their apartment is uninhabitable because of an extensive infestation.

I've been living in an apartment on 102 Albemarle Rd for over a year now. I have never seen a bed bug there nor been bitten by one there.

We have just had our second treatment by a professional exterminator. We have heard numerous reports about bed bug infestations in this building. From what we have heard from other tenants, there are problems on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 6th floors. Treatment is evidently proceeding on a case by case basis, not comprehensively.

Many apartments in this building are infested. My roommate is allergic to the bites and had to go to the hospital. The super is coming tomorrow to check out the situation. We found out the people in the apartment next to us have had them for a long time but never reported it.
