looking to move into the building, apt 14. are the bed bugs still there?
Anonymous on 06/28/2012
Less than a month after I moved into the apt. 3/11 I encountered bed bugs in 2 of the bedrooms. Contacted the owner and he said he was going to get an exterminator to come out. No one has come yet. The problem was never corrected and I had to throw away my kids bed and buy bed bug protectors for mine cause I couldn't afford to buy 2 sets of mattresses. This has been an ongoing problem and the owner is doing nothing about it.

I started receiving bed bug bites in November of 2011. I work with low income people and have a good deal of knowledge about housing law, so I informed the landlord of the building of my situation as soon as I was aware of the bedbugs.
The landlord promised to exterminate, but did not make good. After several phone calls/emails, he offered to send the superintendent (not a licensed exterminator) over to exterminate. The "chemicals" he was going to use were an over-the-counter spray treatment
that would be absolutely ineffective against bedbugs.
At this point I had been going back and forth with my landlord for a month and a half, and I was fed up. I contacted him via certified letter, return receipt requested and demanded that he exterminate. No response. I then called him and let him know that since NYC housing law states that a landlord has 30 days to exterminate bedbugs from the day they are first notified of the extermination. It had at this point been around 60 days since I notified him. I told him if the problem wasn't corrected within 60 days, that I would take him to court.
Within a week I had a professional exterminator come and exterminate. If anyone wants advice on how to get similar results, I live in apt. 15.

Don't come here they're everywhere. It so sad that this has to happen to people.

Well, it's now April 2012, and obviously there hasn't been any extermination since 2010 when the other tenant discovered their bed bug problem. They're still here. I would not recommend that you move into this building no matter how nice the apartment may seem. It would only be a matter of time before they'll come lurking. And it can be very costly.

I move in the apt a year ago and 6 month on the lease I started to get bites in my body, I decided to look for bed bugs underneath my mattress to encounter one bed bug living under my wood slat...then my roomate started getting bites and he found 7 bed bugs on his bed frame that was fabric.
