Response by management to 3B's complaint:

The Tenant first informed our office of bedbugs in the beginning of January 2011. We immediately sent in our specialized bedbug exterminator, Action Pest Control, to treat her unit and do a sweep of the entire building. Their bedbug dog alerted them to the presence of bedbugs in her apartment only. The rest of the building got a clean bill of health.
Tenant subsequently called to inform us that the treatment was not effective and we scheduled anothe

r treatment with the exterminator. Upon arrival, the exterminator observed powder put down by the tenant throughout the apartment in an attempt to eradicate the bedbugs by herself. The exterminator informed the tenant and management that the tenant’s self-treatment of the apartment was hazardous to the health of the exterminator and the bedbug dog and they will only return after the powder is cleaned up. Management then sent a letter to tenant to reiterate what was said by exterminator. Management then ordered the exterminator to return on two separate occasions to retreat the apartment, but each time the powder was still found throughout the unit.
The NYC Department of Health inspected the apartment and confirmed that the tenant must remove the powder before there can be further treatment.

Apartment 3B:
The apartment management company (Moshe Harman) and the pest control company they hired (“Action Bed Bug” from NJ. http://www.actionpestcontrol.com/) both deny that there were bed bug infestation in my apartment and have not done any treatments since Jan. 2010. I am left alone to fight bed bugs on my own. I told them that I was ready to through away all of my brand new furniture and repurchase new furniture in a new unit. Hoshe Harman told me that he would not move me to a

new unit. I am getting bitten everyday especially by newly hatched bed bug nymphs. I am afraid that after I move out, they will rent my unit to a new tenant without treatments like nothing had happened because the “Action Bed Bug” dog said no bed bugs.

I am suffering from bed bug since Dec. 2010. The property management sent “Action Bed Bug” twice in Jan. 2011. The bed bug came back stronger after these treatments. The second treatment was basically nothing. The guy came in and spray the back of my sofa and the floor here and there even I told them that I got bitten 6 times on back of my legs within 1 hour of sitting on my sofa the day after the first treatment. After these 2 treatments, I was getting bitten left and right. So I called the management company and spoke to Moshe Herman. He told me that I did not have bed bugs in my apartment since the “Action Bed Bug” came to treat twice. I left him voice messages a few times after that asking for more treatment, but he never returned my calls.

I called the New York City Housing department. Then the management company resent “Action Bed Bug” again. Mike from action bed bug came. He just has all the excuses not to treat my apartment. I told him that I got bitten sitting on this outman. He said, “The dog is saying there are no bed bugs. So I cannot treat that Ottoman”. I said, “But me as a human getting bitten”. The first time “Action Bed Bug” came to treat my apartment, even they brought the dog in the building, they did not bring the dog into my apartment. I thought it was so strange. The second time they came, the dog did not indicate any bed bug infestation in my apartment while I was getting bitten left and right. I understand that “Action Bed Bug” offer warranty. The dog seems to be an excuse not to do any warranty work. It was obvious to me that Mike had no intention to do any warranty work to begin with. He came fully equipped with excuses. Both “Action Bed Bug” and Moshe Harman deny that I have bed bugs in my apartment.

I told Moshe Harman that the dryers in the laundry facility in the building never get hot enough to kill bed bugs. Nothing is done to correct this. I used to use laundry service until Nov. 2011. I started using the building laundry facility Nov. 2011. I am sure all the other tenants with bed bugs all used this laundry facility to wash all of their clothes.
