I sincerely appreciate all the comments I have been reading and know all the reputation that existed and I do agree. I am new to this building myself and am newly employed with CAPREIT. We recently took over the buildings on July 1st 2012. I will be honest in telling you I heard all the negative reputation this place had as well. Please if you can keep an open heart, I promise we are taking all the resources that are out there to make sure these buildings are quality standard, clean
, friendly, and safe homes for everyone. Heres what I can tell about all the hard work we have been doing so far:
CAPREIT team has been working diligently to address any pest issues encountered since taking over management of Harbour View. Our process has included hiring a reputable and proven organization to take the site through a pro-active process of investigation and treatments. Each suite has been extensively examined by specialized canine unit and where any pests were found the suite is being treated with the best solutions that are available. We also treat the block of suites around the issue to stop the spread of any problems. At the 21 day mark, after a treatment, we re-treat if necessary and at 45 days we will once again engage the canine unit to look for any remaining trouble spots. Our treatments carry a one year guarantee and with the assistance and cooperation of all of our residents we soon hope to be certified pest free by our specialists. There are many other smaller tactics being undertaken to address pest issues, so rest assured we are going above and beyond to make Harbour View a place everyone wants to come home to.
If you would like to report a concern, please do so in order for us to address your issue immediately before it becomes a wider problem. Also, if desired by our residents, we will hold an education session with an expert on pest control to address any concerns you might have and to extend tips on how we can work as a community to create a clean and comfortable environment for everyone. If you are interested in attending one of these sessions please contact us at:
or drop in to the office.
We welcome any genuine feedback as we do care about what happens here and are trying our best to make Harbour Apartments a great place to live.
Today we have found couple of mouse's runing around our house, I chased them and locked them in a room 2 days ago. The new owners of these building are CAPREIT, I was living in one of their apartments over 2 years and I decided to move into harbor view, ocean towers under the safety of CAPREIT. They totally ignored us, we couldn't sleep for couple of days because of those little bastards. They did not tell us there can be mouses and other insects at this time of the year. They have
been completely irrelevant to the matter and all they say is ''thats all we can do'' . New owners are not that great about taking care of their tenants.
Worse apartment experience in history!!!!!!!!!!! Stay away from ocean towers!!!!!!!! on 06/29/2012
To the person who commented saying that the with the help of the building staff and pest control they got rid of them! It wouldn't surprise me if you were an employee of the building, because you are a liar!!!!!
I lived in Ocean Towers, Tower 2 in 2008. This was my roommate and mines first apartment and we last seven months. Within the first two months we were COVERED in bud bug bites! Not to mention cockroaches EVERYWHERE!!!!! Mice!! This place is disgusting!
I refused after
calling, emailing and finally resorting to having to write letters because no one returned any correspondence. Finally after writing a letter I got a call and the manager was going to meet me for a meeting about my issues. He did not show up! So as far as them being atentive complete BS.
After refusing to pay my rent they took us to court and tried to take us for almost $4000. We ended up only taking the clothes on our back after spending $96 to be exact (because we documented everything) to wash and double bag all clothes. Stacked all of our belongings in the middle of the living room and left that apartment. The super then looked at me and said you want to throw that out, I replied yes and she asked if she could have it knowing what we just went through!!!!!!
THIS PLACE NEEDS TO BE SHUT THE HELL DOWN!! What they do to people is unfair and this experience was one of the worse things I have ever gone through. I now have scars, we lost hundreds of dollars replacing EVERYTHING we owned, was beginning to suffer from major sleep issues, and just the altogether stress and emotional tole it had on us.
I truely feel like everyone should come together and have these building shut down. Yes there are issues in different areas with these pests however, these complexes are known very well for this issue and they in no way try to get rid of the problem and also lie when people ask them about it!! How is this right? And then takes people to court, are you kidding me!!! THEY WILL NEVER GET RID OF THE BEDBUG AND COCKROACHES UNTIL THEY SHUT THESE BUILDINGS DOWN HAVE ALL TENANTS MOVE OUT AND TAKE THIS ISSUE SERIOUSLY!!
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES MOVE INTO THESE BUILDINGS!!!!
DO NOT RENT IN THESE TOWERS! MICE AND BED BUGS ABOUND!!! HEALTH DEPT SHOULD CLOSE IT DOWN UNTIL ALL PROBLEM CORRECTED. My daughter rented an apt on 16th floor of 2nd tower as I unfortunately did not know about this site. We flew down to move in Sept 1, 2011. I knew enough to leave all belongings in vehicle until I inspected the place. We were told the carpets had been cleaned (NOT, they weren't even vacuumed well if at all) and the place freshly painted (believe that was false and just a wa
y of explaining why the outlet and light switches were off the wall - bed bugs like to hide in there because it's dark - unless the covers are off). I first found mouse droppings along the edges of both bedrooms and also the living room. I then found living bed bugs in the linen closet and bathroom - likely in bedrooms but with the color of carpet very hard to see if they were there. I called the super back up to show her the bed bugs and mouse droppings and her response was not one of surprise. She told me she would have exterminators in first thing in the morning. It was 7:30 PM by then, but she guaranteed they would come before they did any other calls in the morning. That could only be the case if they were under contract with the building complex. I told them I would have to think about it. Son of a friend ended up in an apartment with bed bugs a couple of years ago & I know that to exterminate them takes either potent chemicals or extreme heat and it takes several hours. I returned the next morning at about 9:15 already decided to tell them not taking apartment. I went up to apartment to meet them and lady told me all smiles that it had been treated and everything good. I went in - the mouse droppings were still on the counter where I left them so I highly doubt anything had been done - at least not by professionals. When I told her I would not be taking the apartment she apologized and told me that to be honest they had a real bug problem there particularly in tower 2. Aparently she now felt free to not lie seeing as how I wasn't taking an apartment.
guys..seriously..do not ever think about living in these towers..i had the worest experience in my life and i lost hundreds of dollars when i left them...i used to live in tower three, i can say that i was living in a garbage bin, mice everywhere , i could not sleep for nights because of the noise they were making and their trials to get into the apartement , they managed to get in finally and turned my life into hell that i was forced to leave this apartment and live in a hotel on my own expens
es. i can not count how many mice i caught or the terrible smell from mice that i was not able to see and they were dead inside the wall or heating systems and all this happened in only 6 weeks.and with all these problems the apt was expensive. If you are still a tenant so god with you. if you think about moving to this place do not ever think about it and i am serious about it . i asked many tenants in these buildings and they suffer from the same problem, trust me you will find better places elsewhere and even cheaper and mice free.i have photos for these dead mice if someone is intersted to see them. I think about going to court to sue these guys for this dity place they run
I subletted an apartment on the 15th floor in January 2010. The apartment seemed fine for the first couple months but once spring hit, we found a mouse in our apartment. The landlords provided us with sticky mouse traps and we caught about 4 mice in total. Our kitchen became infested with cockroaches and despite countless bottles of raid, they were everywhere. My roommate was finding bites all over his body however myself and our other roommate weren't affected. His bites were so bad we had to m
ention it to the landlord who scheduled our apartment to be sprayed the following day. We were forced to stay in a hotel for 2 days, bag all of our clothing and throw away most of our furnature. The problem was never fixed and the management team wasn't too concerned.
Alright, so presumably everywhere in this area can be infested with bedbugs, but Ive found a real problem with the ocean towers. Ive lived in tower 2 spring 2011. I kept waking up itchy and with little red marks on me, but blew it off for bug bites I was just getting outside until it got worse. Soon enough I realized it was bedbugs and thought I could outsmart them. I googled everything about them and sprayed alcohol on my bed etc but none of it worked. I got fed up so I went to the office downs
tairs, they must get it alot because they had a paper to give me quite handy. It pissed me off that I was liable even though I kept my apartment quite clean and stated I must bag my clothes and wash them ( $ out of my pocket). They were quite good about coming in and spraying though. They didnt ask to see the bedbugs ( as it was hard enough to find them myself at 4 and 5 in the morning, took me a few days to actually catch them in action) I had to find somewhere to sleep and someone that would let me bring my cats with me each time they sprayed. Which is a real inconvience to me. Not to mention when I went back in after 24 hrs it was freezing in my apartment from them leaving the windows open. I still could smell the spray they used, I felt like I was breathing in toxins. Regardless the bedbugs were gone. Thinking it was just that building I moved to another building, bad idea. Im now waking up with bites again. I am being somewhat reluctant until I can be sure that this is what the problem is. The hassle of finding another apartment and moving expenses. But if I get bedbugs again I will make them spray and never move back here. Its quite disgusting thinking something is sucking your blood while you sleep. I've also seen mice in the hallways in tower 2, and had to be sprayed for cockroaches as well. Ive never have had a problem with any of the staff working here, all friendly for the most part, but I think the overall management needs to adress the issue better.
Don't listen to them when they say they are not having problems.
Bed bugs, mice and cockroaches all live in Ocean Towers!

I too got bedbugs at this location in 2008 when they were very bad. I knew they were there as everyone did because unfortunatly they were all over the TV, you would really think this was the only location with them in the entire city. Anyway I did what was asked of me as well I did my research and with the help of the staff and their pest control we did get rid of them. They are very fast and very diligent in thier program to exterminate bed bugs. They got rid of mine because I let them do thier
job , and did not blame them for for every bed bug in the city or in the building for that matter, since the easiest way to get bed bugs are on metro transit, at the theater or in a moving truck. Now with saying that the bed bugs I had were nasty and did bite I have scars even after all this time, and I can understand why people get creep out and upset but bed bugs right now in North America are a fact of life and must be dealt with, we can not try to crucify one company or one building or complex. The problem is the government took away the good chemicals that killed the bugs fast. If you did research you would learm STEAM kills them all. Just some food for thought I have lived in this building for 7 years, and have listened to the complaints and people who try to get stuff for nothing these are wonderful buildings and the staff live here, this is their home as well and they are not immuned and they truly care about us tenants. Bed bugs are everywhere just watch the news or read the papers. You probably will not print this because it is not a "dam" the building and the owners letter, but I felt I needed to tell this side of the story.
I moved in with my boyfriend in February 2011. My mom kept telling me "watch out for that building, it's known to have bed bugs." I thought she just didn't want me to move in, but she was right! I woke up one morning with about 10 or 15 bites on my arms. I went to the doctor to see what it was and she said it looked like bed bug bites. I thought she was wrong because my boyfriend didn't have any bites on him, but I came home and inspected the bed and found 2 bugs. It took pest control about a we
ek to get in to spray, all the while we had to stay at my parents place. After they came in and sprayed we slept on an air mattress but were still managing to get bites. After the follow-up spray we decided to try and sleep in the bed. We bought some crawling insect spray at home depot and have been soaking the mattress with it every night before we go to sleep. Anyhow, we asked if there was any way to get out of the lease and they said it was possible with a doctors note, so we went down and got one. Hopefully we can get out of this dirty and disgusting building!!!
I lived there several years, moved to a different appartment on the same floor. My son was getting bitten every night. They searched the place and couldn't find any. The night after they claimed to search the place I found one right on the wall. I brought it to my doctor who sent it to the university and they confirmed it was a bedbug. They told me it was a cockroach, but it was confirmed by an entomologist that it wasn't. People get them everyday there, check the balcony of each place and you w
ill see garbage bags of clothes out that have been washed and left out when they spray with pesticides. Stay far away from that place.
I moved into Ocean Towers II in August 2008. Everything was fine for the first year and I didn't get all the fuss about why everyone hated Ocean Towers so much. My apartment was renovated right before I moved in and everything was clean and new, so after a year I resigned my lease. In June of 2009 I got what I believed to be a rash. I went to the doctor, who informed me that I was having an allergic reaction to a bug bite of some sort. I didn't even think of bed bugs until one night I was awaken
ed by one crawling on me. It wasn't like there were hundreds, but if awakened I would find one. When I told the management -and took one that I had caught to them in a plastic baggie - they told me that they might be carpet beetles. When I informed them that I had done my research, I was treated like I had brought them in myself, and was told it was only my apartment that was affected, though I found out almost immediately many of my neighbours were infected. They sprayed multiple times over the next few months, and I spent countless hours and dollars steaming, packing, washing to try to get rid of them. I was also led to believe that I could not get out of my lease. A friend informed me that with a doctor's note, I would be able to get out of my lease. My doctor was more than willing to fill out the forms (available online) and told me if I wanted to take the case to court he would back me up. I had lost countless ours of sleep, had hundreds of bites, and lost hundreds of hours and dollars throughout the process. It wasn't so much the bed bugs that bothered me, because I know that they are on the rise in North America and with proper treatment they can be controlled, but the way that I was treated by the management of TransGlobe.
People please report if you read this and you are living in any of the Ocean Towers, it's informative and its the only information there is.
Annoyed and fustrated on 09/28/2010
I moved into my boyfriends apartment in May 2010. I had bites and welts all over me from bed bugs. He had told me he didn't have a problem with them, but lo and behold he just wasn't allergic to the bites. However, I was extremely allergic.
We had them come in and spray, we vacuumed 2x dailey as they asked, and even took it upon ourselves to steam clean our carpets with a highly expensive steam cleaner ( as any heat above 120 kills bed bugs). We even went as far as steaming the walls (with
a steamer we bought). Well after the first treatment we were sleeping on an air mattress and getting bitten by the tinyest little bed bugs ( you couldn't see them, until they have blood in them)-size of a flea. We deluded ourselves into believing if we were educated about them, we could get rid of them and prevent them from coming back. Well ha jokes on me.
After the first spray they did not go away-so we moved to another unit, a larger one. Well we were paranoid enough to spend a lot of time steaming every thing we owned to move, so we didn't track them with us. They are a pesky little problem. Well this morning I woke up with more bite.
Fair enough they are everywhere in Halifax and spreading throughout the Atlantic region, and even into NY and Boston. However, Ocean Towers has its own epidemic. They can tell you they can treat, but how can you be sure you dont step on one in the hall and track it into your apartment.
Not to mention my new found friends "Mr. Coackroaches!" Yay... fun
I moved in to the fifth floor on Oct. 2009, and though we've had a small problem with cockroaches, it took a full year for the bedbugs to reach us. But lo and behold, they're here now. I had heard about the problem before I had moved in, so I bought a new mattress and left the plastic on it. I didn't get any bites, but my roommate did. I wouldn't recommend moving here unless you're prepared to deal with bugs.

August 19, 2010--15th floor Apartment was sprayed for bedbugs. They are still bed bugs at this location, I would NEVER recommend anyone live in the three Ocean Towers complex. Although our apartment was not totally infested, it also had mice and cockroaches and the company did very litte to help until we mentioned bedbugs.

It's now 2010 and the bed bugs are still here.
Our unit has been spared so far but others are not so lucky.
I just found out today and booked an appointment with legal aid in our area to figure out what the next step is.
They cannot keep doing this to people.
AND a note to tenants in all buildings -- please stop picking up furniture off the street OR buying it used if you're not going to spray properly before bringing it into your apartment building.
Also, we have Cockroaches.

TRUTH. My buddy Bob lived there when these places were brand new, and he said they had beg big problems and cockroaches.
I lived there in 2004 and man the place was infested several people on my floor had bed bugs and I seen a cockroach that must have been poinsied running in circles.. I got the !@#$ outa there.
So the problem WIL NOT GO AWAY. they do the tenant shuffle spray one place the few bugs that lie scurry to the next apt, etc.
My friend moved out 2 years ago now cause she was
seing cockroches. This place has a history of infestartion with nore than bed bugs. STAY AWAY! straight uo.
We moved into this apartment one week ago(sept 5th)and were delighted to find bugs while we were still moving our stuff in. I have already been bitten once. We informed the landlord of this problem and she gave us a form (which she had in a very handy spot) on what to do to prepare for extermination. This includes removing everything from the floors and everything from our dressers. I hope this solves the problem, but I have a feeling this will not be the last time I see these gross little bugs.
Bitten on 06/30/2009
Soon after moving in, the previous tenant showed up and informed us that she left because they had an infestation, and Transglobe were supposedly going to treat the place before we moved in.
Well, 5 months after this I started waking up with bites. I searched endlessly, found nothing.
Then, last week, I saw one crawling on our coffee table. I trapped it and my roommate went to the tenancy board and a tenancy lawyer (at the legal aid office).
The gave us forms for the doctor. The doctor fill
ed them out and we turned them in.
We didn\'t opt for treatment since it\'s clearly ineffective and the building is infested.
Not only are we out of our yearly lease with just one month notice, we can also look into getting reimbursed for our lost items and expenses.
I suggest to all of you that you talk to the tenancy board and go to the doctor. It causes emotion and psychological damage and no one should have to live with bed bugs.
I had been told there were no bugs in this building but after about six weeks (I moved in in October) I experienced a bunch of bites. The exterminator has come through and it stopped the bites for a few days but I'm having another application next week. I'm going to try to fight the good fight here for a couple months at least, then if the management hasn't solved the problem I think I'll have a pretty good case to quit my lease.
I would definitely recommend just not moving here. The view and
location and price are all pretty good, but bed bugs seriously suck.
We moved into Tower 2 in October and despite promises the building was pest-free we experienced welts all over our bodies about three weeks later (enough time for the bed bugs to take a road trip down the hall to us). There is no sign of this problem stopping as exterminators have been in and yet the bed bugs keep finding their way back. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS PROPERTY! 15 loads of laundry, 10 hours of preparing our apartment for countless exterminator visits (and the 12 hours we had to vacate wh
ile they did it), hours of vacuuming and cleaning... and we're back at square one each and every time. When the building is infected, you're screwed. Exterminating just your apartment does nothing because the bed bugs live in the walls of the complex. This slum should be shut down and exterminated properly. We are currently trying to get out of our lease to get the heck out of here!
Prior to moving in, I inquired about pest problem only to be reassured there were absolutely none. Needless to say within the first month of living there the bites began. The managers came and 'inspected' the apartment looking for them and claimed to have found nothing despite myself and my fiance having the many bite marks to prove our claims.
Upon request only, the apartment was sprayed. We were required to foot the bill for all our laundry as a result of the bugs and were not able to
enter the apartment for 6 hours. After we waited the 6 hours, we returned at 9 that night to find that the spraying had not been done properly. We returned to the office with another request for spraying after the bites continued only to be told that this was common to be bit for 2 more weeks after spraying and that they would only listen to our requests and complaints after that point.
We have been here for 6 months now and have been dealing with them the entire time with no signs of them leaving. We want nothing more than to leave this place and will be as soon as we can.
Unfortunately bedbugs are not the only pests here. There are mini cockroaches too but that is another story for another site.
I am a resident of ocean towers, Tower 2 (2327 brunswick st.) I moved in on April first and in June starting experiencing bites all over my body, i would have mistaken them for misquito bites if it wasn't for the allergic reaction i was haveing to them. a few days later I caught several small bugs and after doing some research discovered that they were infact Bed bugs.. We have had a pest control company in two times to fix the problem and unfortunatly it is still an ungoing problem. Because of
this, our apartment is basically unliviable and we have to replace many of our expensive belongings, such as a couch, fouton, 2 beds, pillows etc.. I have also heard from other tenants in other buildings that this has been an ongoing problem with them as well and many of them have had to relocate.. we will be moving as well
