We found bed bugs in June of 2011 at Nelson Pointe Apartment Homes.
Management said they would pay for a chemical treatment, however we preferred a heat treatment and had to pay for most of it ourselves (Nelson Pointe contributed the amount of a chemical treatment to the heat treatment payment).
Our apartment was treated in June and a few days later we still had bugs in the apartment. The company that treated the apartment sent a dog into every apartment in the building to make sure there w
ere no other infestations in the building. Turns out, the apartment next to ours also had an infestation. Management later told us that the apartment next to ours had been treated previously and it must have been unsuccessful. The bugs had traveled from that apartment, through the wall, and into our apartment. Therefore, during the heat treatment, the bugs retreated into the wall and were not killed. In July, both apartments were heat treated at the same time in order to kill any bugs in the apartments AND the adjoining wall. So far, it seems the treatment was successful.
Nelson Pointe did not notify any other tenants of the problem and did not ask any other tenants to check for an infestation.
Management told us that since they've been open there had been 3 or so other cases of bed bugs in the complex that have been treated.
