I moved to 5050 N. Sheridan Road in April 2011, within a month Horizon Realty took over and moved us into another unit on 4th floor. Within a week noticed that I was itchy and felt like mosquitos were bitting me! Informed manager and she told me that I would have to pay $300 to exterminate! I was outraged but gave the go ahead! An exterminator came looked in under mattress etv. He told me I had no bedbugs!
Anyway to sum.up found there were 4 more people who had contacted management. They were
told same story. HORIZON MANAGEMENT, refuses to take care of there tenants in there building because they are rennovating buildomg, and have asked all tenants to leave after there leade is up! DO NOT RENT HERE! Horizon only cares about your money!

This is an apartment building with a unit on the 10th floor. Starting in July, 2011 I started having bites. It being summer, I thought they were mosquito bites. I'm a manager at a hotel, and I know what bed bugs are as well as their symptoms, so when I hadn't been outside for a while but was still developing bites, I started checking for signs of infestation. Unfortunately, a minor infestation was confirmed and Rose Exterminator was sent on August 30. The exterminator sprayed the mattress,
box springs, frame, headboard, and our furniture. He suggested we wash our pillows and the laundry that is located near the bed, which we did. He told us there was no need to discard our furniture or bedding. He said that since he only found a few bed bugs that when he returned in 2 weeks that he would give the all clear since he didn't expect to see any the next time he visits. As of today, 13 days from the first extermination, I am still getting bites. I'm hoping that the next extermination is soon and that it stops me from being a bed bug buffet!

Received a notice for an "Emergency Extermination Inspection." When further inquiry was made, the office assistant said she was unaware. The company never showed and never notified me of cancellation. To make matters worse, I lost a half-day pay to be home for this as I have a dog and they are unable to enter a unit with a pet w/o the resident being present. Again, I was told this was mandatory and that not being there would be in direct violation of my lease. A few days later, I received n
otice of another inspection and was informed this time by the inspector that it was to determine if my unit needed treatment for bed bugs. He said my unit was clear and left.
A week later, I received a letter for the Management Co. stating that "Several surrounding units in my area needed treatment for bed bug infestations", and that they will be doing mandatory treatment later in the week.
The funny thing is? They released a notice to all tenants this morning stating that they have not had any bed bug issues. I get that crap happens. I get that to a certain degree, this is something that is beyond control, but it's BS that they are claiming they haven't had any problems with this. I feel bad for new tenants that think this place is ok.
