Like the above informant, we had seen the building's notices about the bed bug infestation earlier in the fall. Maintenance is awful in this building, so of course they don't use an actual exterminator – instead they sent out over the counter foggers to all the apartments.
Anyway, we didn't have anything to lose so we let them do the treatment, such as it was, and we hadn't seen any bedbugs. So we thought we'd gotten off and our apartment wasn't infested.
Until today. I woke up wit
h something itching on my hand, and looked down. Sure enough, a bedbug. We turned the bed-frame over to see if there were others, and there were – at least 2 which were dead and one which was very much alive.
We've cleaned, vacuumed and sprayed with an over the counter solution. We'll let the building managers know on Monday, but I know they won't do anything.
In any case, if you see this DO NOT RENT HERE. The bedbugs are just the tip of the iceberg with the problems you'll have with the building . . .

September 21, 2010; I moved in to unit on September 18th, and today, someone slipped a note from the property-manager underneath my door. The note warned that the SECOND round of bedbug spraying would take place before friday of this week. I called the property manager with whom I had worked to sign the lease, and she reported that the first round had taken place two weeks ago, and that the 3rd (and final) round would be 2 weeks from now.
The property manager offered to provide me with a "
zippered mattress cover, so that the bedbugs can't get into the mattress". Apparently, the landlords have been providing such mattress covers to other tenants.
The manager said that there hadn't been any other infestations since November 2009 (when they bought the building), and that they didn't know of any prior to that date.
I am totally distraught, and don't want to move in to this unit-- I would not have begun to paint or move things in (or even CONSIDERED signing a lease) if I had known that they were dealing with a bedbg infestation and were 1/3 of the way through extermination. I totally wasted the past weekend by working on this unit when I could have been finding a unit in a non-infested building!
