Bedbug Bollocks on 08/09/2011
After dealing with an initial infestation when I moved in, I have found myself with another small infestation after an 8 month hiatus without incident.
The buggers are moving from between the walls from some crack or opening that remains to be found. Seems to be a pervasive pest in the building.

This is the first entry on The Bedbug Registry for this address but is not the first/only infestation in the building.
I identified bedbugs in my new Park Terrace apartment in the winter of 2010-2011 and alerted building management to the infestation. Borger Management responded promptly with scheduling of an exterminator.
I spoke with the exterminator during his first visit and he was both helpful and provided a measured response that there was at least one other apartment on the floor b
eing treated for bedbugs.
Building management exceeded the requirements of DC housing code by inspecting neighboring apartments for signs of infestation (a welcome pro-active approach). However, they were not as thorough with scheduling treatments with the exterminator (regular treatment is essential to kill bedbugs at all stages of their life cycle). After Management failed to schedule two appointments, I actively requested treatment on the days that I knew exterminators would be at the building treating other apartments. This proved to insure that my apartment was treated.
It took approximately 2.5 months of professional treatment, steaming and quarantining of personal items in seal-able storage bags, and wall-to-wall dusting of diachronous earth to successfully rid the apartment of a relatively small bedbug infestation (2-6 bites once or twice p/week ~approx 5 adults).
My apartment has been free of bedbugs for 2+ months. However, I recently have seen evidence that bedbugs remain in the building (a tossed mattress with tell-tale signs, etc).
While the episode removed some of my own stigma/fear of bedbugs, it certainly did not make my relatively low rent worth the cost of replacing linens, time off work, and lost sleep.
I would recommend that anyone interested in the area, and specifically the Park Terrace, ask about their pest control practices as part of your standard list of questions for any prospective apartment.
