Upon discovery of bedbugs within this unit we immediately contacted the management company to see if they would be of assistance. The told us they would need to confer with their attorneys. Over the next few days we learned that the management company would not spend any money on this property that was not their own. We would need to hire a separate steam cleaning company out of pocket to clean all of our furniture before their exterminator would even do an inspection. We made the decision to
break the lease. We had hear on good, and frequent authority that simply spraying is not an effective solution which is the method the management company insisted on using. As a result, our arm would be twisted into spending money on each subsequent steam cleaning. In addition, We now had developed a phobia of of our so called safe home, and relaxed sleep was now next to impossible.
In breaking the lease, We were forced to take any belonging that wouldn't fit into a dryer or fit in a 20 gallon ziploc bag, and take them to the city dump. We moved into a new residence with clothes, and air mattresses as our only belongings for several months. (all of the 20 gallon bags were in a back garage covered in diatanatious earth)
At the end of our lease with said management company, we were hit with a bill that claimed all the unpaid rent, in addition to an extermination charge, stated in all caps "NO BED BUGS FOUND"
Which was a huge win fall for us because we were able to get in contact with a an exterminator that we had called out separately in case their exterminator tried to say we had no bed bugs. So let it be know that the exterminator in all of this is questionable aswell. http://alliedexterminatorsco.com/
We Hired an attorney and several months later settled out of court. We agreed to give the management company less than half of what they were asking, and they took it. We were hoping for damages, but breaking the lease made this not possible.
We thought we were through all of this madness, when just a few days ago, when my roommates were looking for a place to live, we discovered they had put an eviction on our record.
...So, bedbugs have ruined my life. The Management used extremely suspect methods to handle situation. They pushed us to rid our belongings, tney kicked us again when we were face down in the dirt.
