For nearly all the time I lived there, the landlord every month made all the residents remove every last thing from the kitchen counters, shelves, drawers, bathroom cabinet, all your dresser drawers, remove your mattress, everything... so they could spray for bed bugs. They threatened you with fines if you didn't totally comply. It was more than what you would expect if they were just trying to prevent bed bugs.
