Found 45 reports:

I went away for the weekend with no issues, and when I came back on Oct 13th, I found 2 full sized bed bugs and a tiny one on my bed, and one on my throw rug. I removed all my bedding and put it in plastic bags, and sprayed my whole bed with deet until I can pick up bed bug spray tomorrow.

The first bed bug I found just from the corner of my eye and I captured it in a cup to confirm it was a bed bug. The other 3 I found just from looking in the creases of the bedding.

We did have the p

lace sprayed for cockroaches last wednesday, I am currently checking the credentials of the company to see if they have a record of tracking in pests.

This building is infected with cockroaches and bedbugs, so much that the landlord had the exterminators treat each suite in the bldg during the wk of July 9th 2012. I don't know how much it's going to help with killing the bugs and roaches.

There are two maintenance guys work here. The tall one Jim and the other shorter one of native decent who should be on psychiatric medication, because he is ignorant and constantly swearing and yelling at everything by himself everything from walking do

wn the stairs to tools to people. He never takes responsibility for anything and is always accusing others. I don't know why they keep him here to maintain the bldg, because he's totally incompetent and impolite. Maybe the landlord can't find competent workers to employ, and has to resort to these assholes. They never fix anything from a leaky faucet to appliances. Their goal is to patch it up which never resolves the problem. The building is in a constant state of disrepair, and the landlord doesn't really care to help. She just sits in her office and projects the blame on others. It could be because the people she subcontracts to repair the bldg like painting, plumbing, fixing appliances etc are her husband and relatives. It's easy to pay those people for who have no skill whatsoever other than do a shady job for a large amount of money. I know this for a fact that she employs her husband and relatives, because the office administrator did her bookkeeping and said that she paid her husband over $75,000.00 to paint a few floors of the bldg which he did a crappy job painting over everything and leaving dripping paint everywhere. She subcontracts her relatives to do the rest of maintenance. Next time they come to your apartment to fix things, ask them. They are all related to the landlord Pat.

I just rented a place for my son, and just found out about this! I guess what I am most concerned in reading all of these posts is this..."WHY DID NO ONE REPORT THIS TO THE PROPER AUTHORITIES????" that is the big question! Now, what do I do??? I have to call the city, then talk to the manager, who is responsible in notifying potential tenants of such things, this is something they have to do, it is not something they may/may not do. I can't believe all this bad trash talk! Instead of trashing, t

his could have been more productive by contacting someone to help out with the situation. Full disclosure is a MUST!!! that is the law! I could go on, however I plan on doing my part as soon as I can get Preet on the phone.

This apartment is very disturbing and not clean. I am having a huge problem with cock-roaches and had a problem with bed-bugs.I can not wait to move and if i end up getting these nasty buugs again i will have no problem reporting it to the health bored again and again. The landlord is lazy and blames everyone for bringing them into the building when its from them not spraying everyones place properly and everyone around the people who get the bugs. She should stop her smoking get of

f her ass and be a proper landlord. The maintence guys are lazy also but then again they get free rent for the penthouse so of course they are going to be lazy and the one maintence guy i swear needs to be on meds because he swears to himself walking down the hall ways. all i know is i can no wait to move the hell out of this nasty dirty stinky fucking usless building

We moved into the building December 2010 and finally moved out December 2011. I can honestly say this was the worst apartment experience my wife and I have ever had. We moved to Edmonton and thought this would be an ideal location, as we both work downtown, but boy, were we wrong. The apartment is absolutely disgusting, from the laundry room to the hall ways to the elevators. We moved into the aprtment and did not even have a bathroom mirror, they said it would be available when we moved in, but

did not come for 3 1/2 weeks. They did not clean the apartment before we moved in, the walls were dirty but they just decided to paint over them, so in the summer it would run and make bubbles on the wall which was gross! We also did not get any hot water for the 1st week and a half as there was a "malfuction" with the plumbing. The elevators are never working and when they are, you have to wait at least 10 minutes for them to get to your floor. The laundry room is a joke, 3/4's of the machine do not work and the floor is constantly flooded by water and filthy. We had a leak in our sink, when we asked to have it fixed, it took two weeks for someone to come and look at it, when they had finished I looked to see what they had did and they duck taped the pipe. They get bush league contractors who do a terrible job because they don't want to spend any money on anything. Also on 4 occasions, roaches crawled out of the tub and were crawling around in the bathtub. I spoke to management about this and they did nothing! Now, for the bed bugs, we bought a brand new bed when we moved in (Brand new to Edmonton) and in the summer we began to get these mosquito like itchy bumps all over our bodies. We also spoke about this to management and they said we probably got them from someone in the elevator and did nothing about the situation. If I have any advice for anyone who is thinking of moving here, DON'T! Yes, the rent is affordable, but you have so many other hassles you have to deal with and let's face it, the building is a dump and they don't do anything to take care of it.

City Square Tower apartments 10020 103 Ave Nw

I was interested in moving to this building because it's right down town and has very nice views... BUT I had also heard it had bedbugs & roaches. My friend from TD Canada trust lived there and she had to move because the bed bugs in her unit were so bad. She had to just leave her furniture behind in the unit because everything was infested. BUT, I decided to go check out the building for myself and see if things had gotten better. In mid August I

went to see City Square tower. The leasing agent who showed me the building was surprisingly honest. The first question I asked her before we got into the unit was "Does this building have any problems with bedbugs or roaches?"...and her answer to my question was: "Yes. We have bedbugs and cockroaches, there is nothing we can do about it. We spray the building but Asian people keep bringing the bugs in with their rice"... I was in shock! Because 1. Bedbugs don't travel in just rice (they can travel in anything. Even a remote control) 2. I couldn't believe that she admitted the building was infested! < That immediately turned me off. Then she told me that they travel from unit to unit through the VENTILATION. OMG. So basically, if you live in this building, no matter how clean you are or how many times you fumigate your apartment.. you will still have bedbugs because they travel through the ventilation. It's a SHAME because this building is nice. They should spray the building PROPERLY with the heat method and that way people won't have to go through this bed bug nightmare. ESPECIALLY since kids and families live in this building...waking up with bloody bedbug bites is not a nice experience.

I have been live here for 2 years, those bed bugs never be able to get away, especially in summer. The management is so poor, and they do nothing other than just receiving rent. And every time while they are claiming they are going to call in a pest control, they never get it done, because you are "NOT READY"!! I was at my home at one time while they said the pest control is here, and NONE showed up for all day, What the hell is "NOT READY" came from. I am going to move out soon, and i will disc

ard all of my bed, sofa and so on. Because it is all infested!!

7th Oct 2011 I finally found several bedbugs on my bed! those days before that I just imagined that I am allergic to something else! unfortunately It was Friday night! I tried to clean everything and reported to manager assistant and she responded:
1) you didn't clean your apartment!
after explaining the way I am leaving she said:
2) may be you recently bought some second handed stuff!
I showed her receipt for everything then she said:
3) some of your friend reported bedbug too, may be you

shared bedbugs during parties or etc.
I controlled myself and explained that we never had party for several months. (she mentioned 5 different apartments occupied by people from my race and I barely knew one of them). then she said:
4) may be catch some bedbugs in LRT or bus?
And I just laughed at her!
finally she accepted to report our apartment for treatment. appointment for 17 Oct!!!!! 10 days after first day.
Oct 16 we prepared everything (hopeful to have another night full of sleep). Oct 17 night we came back home and nothing happened. Oct 18 I called assistant manager and she said Ohhh no no they came and treat your apartment I am sure!
3 hours later friend of mine, living in same floor called me:
"I just found bedbug in our bedroom and I asked management office for treatment. She said They will come Nov 12th.Also strongly recommend that we prepare our apartment. She said they have not treated yours because it was not ready!!!!"

And now it is Oct 31 and I am still killing bedbugs by hand all night. Tomorrow I am going to fight with chief manager. I spent 100 $ during last couple of days and Still can't sleep at night.
we planned to move out by the end of Nov, and as I discussed with several expert they said I should leave All my stuff (including 1 year old full furniture and bedding which cost me 3500$).
Believe me, they don't care about anybody here. This building is kinda close to downtown workplaces and also LRT station (good for students like me) and most of people which are new to town find it attractive. but after several couple of months you will see what I am saying: "Cockroaches, bedbugs, poor service and impolite staff!"
After a few days I found that recently 7 apartments (Student from my race) has complained for bedbugs. fortunately I was only with monthly lease and the rest should tolerate this situation for next couple of months!
So if still think this worth to try be my guest!

Two friends and I live in this building, all in separate apartments. Within the past few weeks, all of us have discovered bedbugs. They're treating the affected apartments, but management has been dismissive and suggested in each case that the tenant was responsible for the infestation--clearly ludicrous when one considers how widespread an issue this is in this building.

For the record, the building is also full of roaches...

September 16th, I just found out that I had bedbugs. I noticed that I started getting bit by something, but didn't see anything yet. For about a whole week and a half I kept getting bit, hoping that it was an allergic reaction! About 3 days ago is when my B.F found 1 on the bed, he asked me " is this a bed bug"?. I looked at it, "OMFG, we have bedbugs".!!!!! We haven't slept since finding the bedbug on our bed, I mean who want to sleep after finding that! The day after I found them I go to my la

ndlord, he starts asking me about my bed and is it secondhand, I must admit because I would have known if I had bedbugs. I really don't know what to do because I hear of them ALWAYS COMING BACK!!! And I know in this case they will, there are even cockroaches in here, I don't have time to wait around to see if the treatment works or not, I'm worried about having a goods night sleep and feeling comfortable on my own home, rented or not!! The address here is the babrbara manor!! 8640-1o6 ave n.w...

10812 -- 107 street a walk up apartment buiding had a problem with bed bugs for the last 4 years at least. When bed bugs appeared in my bed I had to sleep with my clothes on with a face mask and rubber gloves.
eventually exterminators came and sprayed my apartment and there were fewer of them, then a few months later they came in and sprayed again the bed and the couch.
So far my apartment had been sprayed five times in the last three and a half years. the last time on august 24, 2011. And

bed bugs appeared again, mostly in the bathroom. The tenant downstairs on second floor has a huge infestation and the bugs migrate from him on pipes, wires and air vents.

I believe spraying bugs isn't enough to kill all of them, the have to use poisonous gas or heat at about 60 degrees celsius.

Now I am looking for a better apartment without pests. It would be good to know which buildings are pest free by an independent report, such as health board.

I've been living in this bulding now for four months and just last month I was getting bit by bed bugs my husband didn't know what it was eather did I at first until we see the gross bugs crawling and my daughter and son started getting bit also. The apartment got sprayed about 3-4 weeks ago plus my husband did a extra spray and we are still seeing them. I can't find nothing on my mattress I threw out our box spring vacum everyday there's nothing in our living room. But yet they sti

ll are bitting us. We are losing so much sleep. The last two night we found three adult ones climbing up the walls in the bedroom. I called capital health today to find out if the apartments around me have been sprayed and I'm waiting for a call back.we also were sprayed for cock roaches the same time as the bed bugs. We do not understand where they came from our previous home we never had ANY problems. But yet the lady at the front says we must have brought them in from somewhere. I've called all my friends they have nothing my parents nothing so we have no idea. It has to be someone around the bedroom. Arrg this is frustrating!!! Not to mention my stinky nebour across the hall.

I was the property manager for this senior building for almost two years, and we continued to have the building treated, had the dog come and do his thing that he was supposedly trained in, and i had continuously requested a different way of treating which is the "heat treatment" but no one would listen to me, and would say it cost to much money. Well they were not thinking of how much it costed the tenants, there insanity...i SAY. so about 8mths into my job, after the company spent like thousan

ds, and thousands of dollars, and still couldnt get rid of these bed bugs. They finally decided the "Heat Treatment". This was the best thing ever to get done. We continued to inspect and follow up with the tenants, and they had no more problems with bed bugs.

I have kept finding bed bugs in this building. When I first came into the building, I was shocked by the dark taints on my pillow. It just seemed that I was bleeding, but I couldn't find any injuries on my head. At the same time, there was some strange odor like the mix of chilli and onion full of my room. Not until I found one bed bug did I know the actual situation.
I sprayed raid several times which can only sustain just one week. I also use hot stream to clean my room every several days. Wh

enever I smell the stink, I hot stream my bed frame, matress, the wall cracks as well as blanket margins, not only to kill mature ones but also to kill their spawn. The little bugs are quite difficult to catch cause they are very tiny and transparent.
I just don't know where these bugs come from. since I frequently clean my belongings and what I caught are adult bugs, they can not grow up in my room. I guess they must crawl in from the seam of the wall along the radiator. I have ever tried to find some pesticide such as diatomaceous earth. But I ended up with nothing. Canadian tire, Home depot and Walmart do not sell it.
So I can assure cleanness one time, it won't keep long. It will very appreciapted if anyone have a good ideal to get rid of it.

This comment is for everyone posting their comments about bed bugs here. Just to pass on a bit of information that I have come to discover myself. This may not apply to everyone here, but may strike some consideration for others.

I found this website, because not too long ago I was convinced that I had a bed bug problem in my building downtown that I live in, I was constantly waking up with little red bites all over my body, some days worse than others. So I sacraficed my sleep for days and I

'd go to bed with a flashlight to catch the little buggers in action. Apparently they come out to bite mostly in the dark, once the bed is warm from your body heat and especially if you're sleeping still and not thrashing around.

But after my investigations, and a thorough mattress search, I came up with nothing. But turns out there is something else that can cause the same agravation as those little bed bugs do.

If you live in a building that allows pets and perhaps own a pet, then there could be a chance that the little bites you have are flea bites. Chances are even higher if you sleep with your pet. They crawl off your pet to bite and crawl back on to your pet and worse, lay eggs on your pet that will hatch if not treated. They have a somewhat short life span but multiply quickly.

Fleas and bed bugs are somewhat simular in size and looks by the naked eye and will leave the same looking bite marks. Unfortunately washing bed sheets, vacuming, and using bug sprays alone will not the way to get rid of fleas. Pets must be treated for fleas and other steps taken to remove them from your home. Medications, creams, sprays, collars and other devices are out there to kill fleas and treat your pet. As far as I know human can be bitten by fleas but not treated for fleas, but I'm not 100% sure about that. Because fleas live and travel simular to lice but look much different. Of course vacuming and washing items will help but only if your pet(s) is/are treated. If you don't have a pet, but live in a "pet building" chances are you may have bed bugs, but there is still a slim chance that it could be fleas (they do travel) and could be affecting you.

It's good to check your pet for fleas or flea bites- which will help you figure out if you have bed bugs or not. You can also check with your with your vet just in case if you are not sure.

i moved from Quebec on August 1st 2010 to this apartment building in Edmonton, on 15508 84 Ave.Two days later i started to be very uncomfortable in bed at night, i would scratch myself so bad.One night i woke up in the middle of the night because i could not sleep, and turned the light on, i saw 2 bed bugs on my bed running, trying to hide. i quickly killed both of them. i showed them to my 2 roomates who have lived in this apt for over 6 months, they told me that they had two treatments already

and it seems they cant get rid of them. We are now looking for an apartment to move in hopefully beginning of September. I hope Edmonton is not all full of bed bugs.

I moved from this apartment building a couple years ago due to the unending bed bug problem I encountered. Although you may be able to limit the spread by vacuuming, washing, sealing etc., I seriously doubt you will be able to get rid of them on your own without a professional coming in. Lord knows I tried! The land lady called in the "edmonton exterminators" which sprayed my apartment. It worked for the first few weeks, but I started getting bites again and they came in for a second time. This

finally got rid of the bed bugs, but I knew it was only a matter of time before they returned as I could see they came from the apartment next door. You can judge by the posts below that it is an unending problem for this apartment building, you may be able to get rid of them temporarily but they will in all likely hood return. Moving was the only alternative I had.

I 1st found the critters in my bathroom crawling the walls .. no idea what it was until someone said it sounds like a bed bug... after reading up on it online I was horrified. I didn't even call my land lord I called the health board who did come out (Feb 2010)and said I didn't have any (I was at work so my son let them in) ... my son continued to get these red marks all over him .. sometimes one or two and other times dozens .. we took all our blankets sheets pillows ect to

laundry mat and washed every thing in hot water. we vacumed his room really well and I sprayed all the base boards with raid.... for a couple of weeks every thing seemed fine.

Then I started catching them again on the bathroom wall and my son started to get red marks again... I called the health board again and last week an inspector came out (I was present this time and showed him the dead ones I had collected) and he lifted the corner sheets off the bed and looked under the seam.. He said I don't see any I don't think you have any. I looked at him in dismay and said are you serious? I pulled the mattress out and stripped the bed myself and started looking and much to my dismay lifted the seam up near where my son's head would be and found a whole chit load! I jumped and said to the guy .. OK look here .. so he did pick his way over and picked up the seam with his finger tips (I think he was a pansy!)

Of course the land lady is on vacation... so now I'm waiting to see how long it takes for her to act on it... oh and the bugs have spread to my room I found one on my bed this morning and had two red marks on my eyelid .. grrr

Does washing sheets and blankets in hot water and bleach kill them and their eggs? does anyone know

Caught the first bedbug on March 17,2010 on the 6th floor of this building. Luckily my lease tenure will end in 2 months. So I have to wait another 2 months to leave this building for good.

2 seperate infestations at 108ave-113st. The first was contained on the second floor. Exterminators were contacted and the affected apartments were sprayed twice to insure the unhatched eggs would be destroyed, given 7-10 days to mature. About 6 months later the first and second floors were again infested. Now, I can't say every suite was infested, but the landlord was very close mouthed about the existance of bed bugs when they appeared. I didn,t find out the second floor had problems until th

e invasion on my apt. 6 mos. later. The owners of the building do take pride in their investment, coming from Calgary at least once a month to paint, repair etc., on top of what the part- time live in maintainance man does. Since these bugs require blood to feed, dishes in the sink or paperwork spread on a table will not supply nourishment, only hiding places. As I may not be tidy, but am not dirty I took offense at insinuations that my lack of tidiness was somehow a cause or aid to the infestation.I have not been asked to move and because of eveyones silence about the problem am not aware of others being evicted.I was asked to discard all my books since the bugs could hide there and live in stasis for two years.I was also asked to discard an old couch, which had been sprayed twice now and I had been assured by the exterminators it was no threat. After many sleepless nights, sleeping with the light on, dreaming about bedbugs, I have to sympathize with the caretakers fears. I kept my books and couch, not willing to risk buying a new one only to have the bugs re-appear. So far, another 6 months has passed, there have (to my knowledge)been no recurrances.I still live in dread of seeing them return. They spread so easily from building to building as a result of contamination from visiting an infested site. They are so tiny they are extremely hard to see. They can fit under light switches and travel the wires from apt. to apt.A friend had the dog sniffing squad of exterminators at his apt. on 107 ave.117st.After spraying there twice, doing the entire building, there was another outbreak. When the dogs sniffed his suite the third time they went to two spots. One small spot on his expensive bed and inside his T.V. remote!!He was told that it was probably a dead bug or remnant the dogs smelled on his bed.He had been very consciencious spraying his bed with Raid on top of the pro's chemical concoction. These bugs have become rampant since the banning of DDT according to exterminators.I have been told that any further infestation would be my own responsibility at my building since who could say where the blame lay for their unwelcome appearance, and the expense was too much to expect the landlord to pick up perpetually. My son told me if he found a bedbug in his home he would list it for sale immediately. Before each visit, out of extreme concern for my son, his wife and my two baby grandchildren I wear freshly laundered clothing for each visit.Still! 6 mos. later! Moving is no guarantee you will escape these filthy blood-sucking bugs from hell.I have noticed an over-abundance of discarded beds and couches in the alley behind 113st fronm 107 to 109 ave.Yesterdays Sun reported on the $3,000 fine given to the owners of 10746-113st. apt. building for the uncontrolled persistant problem with bedbugs among a litany of other charges. It is the attitude of that type of landlord that encourages the growth and spread of the bedbug epidemic. It is important to make it possible to access the knowledge of whether a building has had a history of bedbug infestation and how long the building has remained bug free so that renters can make an informed decision on whether to rent or not at a particular location. It would be helpful to have a list of landlords who effectively dealt with the problem and those who flaunt health and safety laws and acieve notoriety by breaking landlord tenant laws too. Yesterdays Sun report of a mere $3,000 fine is cheaper than fumigating the building. Before we invest hundreds of millions of dollar for an elitist arena, let's have health inspectors grade each apt. building and have the grades available to renters on the internet. If an owner wants one of the categories he has been graded on up-graded, the cost of changing the listing( by having exterminators, engineers or other relevant professionals re-assess his grading for a particular category should come at the land owner's expense. There is no point moving from one bad location to another.

2009-12-19: I woke up with two pairs of bite marks on my left thigh, as this building has a bed bug history this made me nervous. I decided to downgrade to boxers from pajama pants and see what happened.

2009-12-20: Next day, chains of 3 bites in rows were on my left hip and in the crook of my left knee. This was a Sunday so the office was closed.

2009-12-21: Reported to the office, got the impression of being brushed off... was told there was no way it would be dealt with before the holid

ays. Was given a sticky trap to "place in the kitchen" - trap was so thick that BBs would likely crawl under it not through, and why the heck the kitchen? Issue is in my sleeping quarters.

2009-12-28: 00:15hrs Caught one in a ziplock bag, office was closed the 28th still due to the holidays.

2009-12-29: Turned in the bug to the office, although I have neither travelled nor made clothing purchases for months, they are denying that these are likely to have come in from adjacent suites. Implying instead that I have unclean conditions which caused it. They said they will later have maintenance inspect my suite and provide my extermination preparation sheet. Will update further once more details come available.

several weeks then causually told a neighbor
then the neighbor told management. They in

up doing twice more, again a bandade approach.
Several weeks later more infested apartments.
Finally the fumig

of 36 apartments had these critters. the plan
now is to do every unit four times once every
2 weeks. We had to do the usual thing heat treat
our belongings and double bag. Move furniture away from wall or scrap it. this is one hell of a job for seniors, some are in their nineties. I for one had a heart attack. All because management chose to be reactive not proactive

I have read these reports and just had to laugh. i have lived on the 7th floor in a two bedroom going over 20 some odd years now. OMG where to start... well first off let me clarify I don't have any bedbugs in my suite, nor do I have any cockroaches. I had ants but they were killed off by the so called "fat lazy maintenance man" as it was written by "A SERIOUS TENANT" who isnt afraid to speak up on behalf of those who are afraid to speak up... at least state your first name "A SERIOUS TENANT" Do

n't hide behind the anonymous fact of this site as it pretty much makes you a gutless coward also, please tell me you truly don't believe that this handy man actually plants bugs in your suite? or that he rips up (or wrips up as stated by you) work requests? Because if you truly do, you're going to have to change your name from A SERIOUS TENANT to: A MORONIC TENANT. As far as the letter from Kyla, we spoke a few times on the weekend and I'm sorry about your experiences here. The lady you were referring to is Kate and yes she doesn't work here as when I went down to report the ants she just stared at me like "just please go away" she finally had me fill out a work request and about 2 hours later Jim showed with bait traps and bleach and to be 100% honest never had a problem since with ants. Now if only Jim could use those bait traps and bleach on my accross the hall neighbors who stink up the hallway with their kim chi, life would be grand here. I find the staff here care more especially those in the office. Tabby seems good and Pat, well she's okay I don't really have any dealings with her anyways. Jim and James are the maintnance guys and they have a male housekeeper now. The former maintnance man told me that bed bugs are rampant all over the city and hotels with 4-5 stars even have them. He said heat works good and certain sprays eradicate them too. My friend in another apartment had them and told me about this site. He doesn't have them anymore but I guess you can never tell where they will show up. Thanks to all who read my rant and be sure to have yourselves a very nice day!

Having been a resident of this particular building for about four years (up until last year), I am extremely heartened to be reading this. Although I moved out last summer, I am told that the bedbug saga continues! As late as two months ago, a resident I am still friends with confirmed that they'd had the little verminsche living in their apartment briefly.

My experience was in January of last year at City Square Towers. It was fortunate it happened in January and was a relatively small infe

station, so the infestation itself was relatively easy to remedy (once we figured out what it was!). We took our clothes, bagged them all up, stuck them in the deep freeze of the outdoors for five days, and then ran them through the dryer. No problems.

The building staff: When approached and told that we had a bed bug infestation and asked, "are you not responsible for eradicating this?" She (no longer works there) replied that no they were not, as it was in the 1 year lease I had signed (after being an incredibly good and faithful tenant for three years at that point)that the tenant would be responsible for all costs and booking of the fumigation.

I then asked, "Well, this is a serious issue-- shouldn't you be doing something -- the bugs came in through the vents we think, so doesn't that imply the problem is bigger? Does this not concern you at all?"

"You need to take care of it."

I check the lease-- it ambiguously states that no...no I am not responsible. Further checking with the Landlord and Tenant Act...nope, I'm definitely not paying for this! I go back on two separate occasions and explain and show my findings, and she finally says,

"well, then bring us your receipts and we will deduct the cost out of your rent."

I lived on the 23rd floor-- when I went back upstairs, I knocked on one of the other tenant's doors (I'd seen them struggling with some bed bug stuff earlier that week) and asked, "hey, did you have any issues getting money for your fumigation from the office?"

"No, not at all..they were super good about it."

So, you think it stops here, but it doesn't. It costs more to get rid of contaminated things than to actually get our place fumigated-- we don't get compensated for that.

A few weeks later, after all is said and done, I start hearing of people getting KICKED OUT because they have bed bugs. The horrifying bit about it, is that the management was being approached by people who were clearly immigrants, clearly very new to the country, and having young children, they were concerned about the critters in their apartment. The management then blamed them, and I believe (from what I heard-- this is all word of mouth unfortunately-- I never spoke to the family) they actually did kick them out, and made a move to try to kick out a few (at least 2 or 3) more immigrants as well before someone caught wind of it. The problem was, is that the poor people they gave the boot, didn't know that they COULD NOT be kicked out.

The whole time I have lived in this building, as nice and cooperative of a tenant as I've been (up until this point), I've never experienced much that wasn't corrupt from these building managers. Jim Duks, the maintenance man, is an incredibly lovely person, but also quite quirky (a racist, a slob...but incredibly good at his job-- and nice, but only if you are nice in return). The reason I bring up Jim and him being misunderstood, is because someone slandered him in a past entry-- I have to say, if it weren't for Jim, the building would be 20x worse than it is. The new guy is much worse for the building than Jim will ever be.

One thing that does have to be mentioned is the building itself-- lots of caterwauling about the "eco" system, but it's the oldest apartment building in the downtown core-- it's over 50 years old! Stuff is bound to degrade. Jim, bless the dude, is totally devoted to that place, even as it falls apart. Sorry, digression!

In long ranty conclusion--- I would love to get a news station interested in what's going on there with the management and their appalling treatment of residents, abuse of tenant policies, and of course, the unsanitary condition the building continues to degrade into.

If you are renting apartment in this building be careful not to rent this one.
The stupid old manager is tired of getting complaints from his tenants that he won't even pick up the phone now. We have about 50 species of mold, insects and pests. We can study ecology here, there is everything from molds to white ants to bedbugs to cockroaches to mice. There is a food chain. This flat is more of a science lab than a apartment.
When we complain to manager He puts th

e blame on us.I have talked to many other renters in building and everybody has same issue.Future renters BEAWARE!!!!!!!

I live in this apartment building for awhile know, this should be called more than Bed Infested Homes, how does Management get off, on taking money for Rent but will not do anything whatsoever about their building, the older Maintenance man is a lazy as shit, he gets pd to sit on his ass, while tenants are waiting/waiting for work to be done on their suites, not going to happen as he wrips up the work orders, wow what kind of a Apartment building is this? they can take money from tenants but wil

l not do a damn good thing for their tenants. I am so appalled at these so called professional people, this person has been living in this building for 16 years and is a digusting slob, he gets paid to bring in bedbugs, ants, wow do your job you lazy old man, their is a lot of people who know this person but are to scared to use their voice, I am not, We are tenants and do have a lot of rights that we are not aware of, has any of these building managers actually stepped into this mans suite? no why would they their to busy taking money from people/ acting like their building is so great. Do they actually live in a suite here? not, why are they to scared they will realize us as tenants have been right all along, wow to lazy to make a building up to par, just because this lazy old fart is to lazy to get off his ass and actually do some WORK, we have bedbugs since he stepped into our apartment suite, we have had to throw out beds, couches, why? all because hes to lazy to make this place a safe/happy place, just because he likes his infested suite does not mean we should have to, the health board should really get involved and make these people live in a suite with bed bugs/ get pink spots on their bodies/ pay to get their place sprayed, its not our responsibility to get this done its theirs and theirs alone, I cannot wait to find a real home that I do not have to share with the bed bugs? and be so embarrssed to allow my friends to come over and visit me, wow how embarrssing that would be if my friends were to get marks on their bodies while at my home I could not live with myself knowing my friends were affected like I am, this is not right/ not at all humane, who lives like this? they sure do not, lets get something done about this un-alled for BS before its way to late, I will tell people about this building till they have no more tenants then maybe one day they will not have their jobs you really call it a job taking money from people(TENANTS) and the tenants not getting the respect they so deserve, or getting what they are suppose to when you live in a building that is so disgusting, it smells like eggs or fart all the time, the elevator floors are always so disgusting, no swim pool as their to lazy to actually buy the proper stuff to put into the pool again lazy maintenance man and lazy people who are supposedly working here hat do they actually do here???? the upkeep of our suites in this building is so so so disgusting, wrip out the rugs and see what is growing under our rugs????? ants, termites, bed bugs, mold, cock roaches, we had no laundry facilities for almost 3 weeks, why as they were to darn lazy to get the smell of the fire out of their, I cannot wait till I find my new home which will be a real real home good riddens you lazy people.... A very very very disapointed tenant, do your jobs and taking money from people if your not going to do your part, and clean up this building before its condemmed or no people are living in here.....

10020 - 103 Avenue, Edmonton (City Square Tower)

October 23, 2008 - I had an appointment to view one of the suites in this building today as I was thinking of moving downtown. After making an appointment to view, I spoke to one of my co-workers who lives in this building and she warned me that there was a bed bug problem. She also told me that the fire alarms are constantly going off in the building and that it was an old building that had not been kept up very well. She also warned me tha

t this is the kind of building that requires a one-year lease when tenants move in, so a tenant is stuck there for a year.

So I called the building management back and asked if they had a bed bug problem. A different woman with a thick East Indian accent answered and hesitated, then asked me who was calling. I didn’t identify myself but said I was thinking of moving into her building but already know someone who’s living there.

She then said that yes, they had a bed bug problem but "it had been dealt with." I asked for details of how they dealt with it and she told me when a suite is infested, they spray that suite, as well as the suites next door and above and below it. I asked her if they had sprayed the entire building and she didn’t answer that question, but instead said, “Every single apartment building in Edmonton, including hotels, has problems with bed bugs.” She said they had their own professional exterminators to deal with this. She never answered my question as to whether they were going to spray the entire building. I asked her if she was willing to give me the name of the company they use for exterminating bed bugs. At this point, she started raising her voice at me and flatly refused.

Needless to say, I did not keep my appointment to view the apartment.

10730 -104 Street, Mainstreet Equities. I notified my landlord last Monday, it is seven days later, and am still waiting for my apartment to be fumigated. The kicker is I'm moving in three weeks to a new condo, and the longer management waits, the worse the problem will get and my furniture will have to be discarded. I know the bugs are from other apartments or from the laundry room. The building is disgusting and management has let it fall apart. This is the second building of Mainstreet I

have lived in, and they both have been disgusting. I've contacted Capital Health and have managed to control the infestation by spraying the entire apartment with RAID including both mattresses. The infestation has been controlled and is only on the second level of my apartment (I hope). I washed my laundry and bagged it all in Vac Packs. I've moved my furniture away from the walls. I've vaccumed the baseboards, washed the floors and have thrown out boxes and other things that were in storage. So, consider yourselves forwarned about Mainstreet. I have been bombarding management with emails and calls each day for the past seven days, and followed up with Ecopest after management claimed they put in a service request - fat chance, Ecopest never received the work order.

In hopes that one day i will be famous and my signature worth millions the office for our building just seems to collect reports with my signature on them. No they don't read what i wrote just look at the potential profits of my pennminship. What we simply have here is a lack of work ethic, communication and a standard care for one another as humans. If the building was under better management and maintenance wasn't so ghost like we could aviod such problems as bugs. I am not sure if the bed b

ugs are having to pay rent seeing as they are moving in on us, but one thing that we tennants have in common with the bugs is the fact that we MUST and I repeat MUST have our rent in on time but heaven for bid should we ask for anything to get done on time. So what exactly are we paying monsterous prices for..oh yeah...nothing but 4 walls. The staff of this building should take pride in the area we are in. The downtown has set up an image of beauty and culture but yet we still manage to see garbage all over the building, unvaccumed floors, and that is just a start. Lets get on the band wagon and grow up. I know 16 year olds who take their jobs more seriously than most people around here...perhaps they should be running building..but that is just my opinion. I want to be proud of where I live, afterall I am proud of who i am and the city i live in..what is a person to do when no one is willing to step up to the plate and be responsible. So I guess until that happens I will contiue handing in my autograph to the office making sure to put a disclaimer on the bottom stating that no profits are to be made on the sellign of this document. Afterall they get enough of my money a the begining of each month for my four walls and bedbugs don't you think?

I was living in the main floor apartment at 4617-117 Ave. I had moved here from another province so I had no idea what a bed bug even looked like. For the first 3 months I was covered in what I thought was hives, the doctors kept telling me it was an allergy, or a reaction to a new climate. In Jan/07 I started to see little flat red bugs around the house, by April the sightings were frequent. On April 1st when I went to pay my rent I advised the landlord that we had bedbugs because by this point

I had researched and even phoned exterminators. My landlord did not seem overly concerned but agreed to help. On May 23/07 after hearing nothing from the landlord and the apartment was infested I moved out in the middle of the night, only able to take a few things with me. I had to throw away everything I owned, it was like starting over again after a house fire. It was one of the worst experiences of my life. I wish I had of dropped a few off at my landlord's house and then see if he took the situation more seriously. I even still drive by the house to make sure it is not being rented because if it is I will bang on the door and warn the tenants!!

Also had an itrusion of bed bugs and ants in this building on the ninth floor..Many of the promlems in this building are due to an awful management who have allowed the building to deteriorate rapidly, and who have a contempt for tenants rights..As the good tenants leave ,they are replaced by tenants from the lower income groups..Some of those tenants who come from this group take old furniture into the building which is already contaminated..Also other new tenants who arrive from overseas carry

the bugs with them in their luggage..I know of three tenants who have vacated the building because of this problem...My repeated calls to the landlord and tenant authority and the health authority have been in vain...Disgusted,but hopeful..

I live on the 24th floor of this building. Around mid-February 2008, I started noticing rashes/bites on my body but had no idea what it was coming from. For 6 weeks I was in and out of my doctor's office trying to figure out what was causing this... until this morning, when I discovered the bedbugs that have been hiding out all this time. Gross. I'll be contacting the building tomorrow to have exterminators come in here.

Can't speak much on the past few enteries cept I live in a higher number on the 23rd floor and the management have been nothing but helpful in eradicating the lil critters. I am now bedbug free. I didnt critisize the management nor did i demand anything, the tall fellow who is the handyman who came to my aid upon when I first noticed a few bugs was understanding and started the ball rolling for me. The third entry are prob the same idiots who came to my door with a warning to move out cuz of thi

s massive infestistation on my floor. Well I didnt move out and I am good to go now. The only thing I dont understand about this entire thing was why I had to wait the 10 days after my first treatment but after surfing the web I found out why and all was is still is good!

On January 20 we discovered a live, large bug in our duvet, and several rust, blood, and dark-coloured spots on the bedding and mattress seams. That was the same day I discovered 2 itchy red bites on my torso. We notified management, who did not send exterminators in until 3 whole days later (Wednesday afternoon), and as of today (Saturday Jan 26), they are still all over our apartment. Just 10 minutes ago, I pulled a live one off my ankle and there

was blood everywhere. Management "says" they are exterminating other units, but did not say when, and are really doing nothing to prevent cross-unit infestation. I recently learned that at least 10 units on my floor alone (23rd) are infested, and some were reported weeks ago. Does management make any attempt at an apology, or, god forbid, a warning for other tenants to be on the lookout and clean their units?? No!!! They know that more reported infestations means more extermination bills for them, and the management here will do everythng in its power to screw tenants over. I'm glad I found this registry and I will encourage others in my building to post their stories publicly as well, because this is ridiculous. It is a disgusting and emotional ordeal as someone else said, and living out of garbage bags, not touching our $900 infested couch (which management will NOT compensate us for), sleeping poorly, and trying to hide our bites and making up stories as to why friends cannot come over and why we cannot go to their place and sit on their upholstered furniture is no way to live.

For the last few weeks we have been noticing bugs in the bed, but finally realized that they were more than just random accounts. We went online and found out that the tiny blood spots on the sheets were because the bugs have been sucking our blood. Awesome. We're calling an exterminator in the morning and sleeping on the couch tonight. This sucks.

I live in this buiding. Last week someone in my building warned me that there were bed bugs spreading in the building. So I was aware that it could affect me. For several weeks I would wake up many mornings to find blood spots on the sheets around my body. I thought maybe it was somehow coming from me and I was starting to get concerned. Went online and found out it was bed bugs. Found a few...they are so tiny these ones, now at the present moment I am waiting for an exterminator. This has been

such an emotional ordeal. This is disgusting!
