kill them all on 09/10/2009
I first realized that my appartment was infested at the begining of 2008. I had a rash that looked like what I remember chickenpox looking like, so I wen to the medicentre to get it checked out. The Doc wasn't sure what it was but one of his guesses was that it might be bed bugs. I never new that bedbugs were even real up until that point so i checked it out on the web and got some basic info then checked out the bed and sure enough there they were, and in great numbers.
I told my landlady and
she had the exterminators in to fumigate a couple weeks later. I slept on my couch until then and only had a couple bites. The couch and a matching chair were old and second hand so it's likely that's where they first showed up. I ended up getting rid of those pieces of furniture but i kept the bed because I had left it outside in -20 degree celcius on my balcony for three weeks. I read online that extreme cold will kill bed bugs after prolonged exposure. I wouldn't reccommend this. I don't think it worked. Anyway, I did the whole procedure, vacuum thoroughly before hand, and every day for two weeks after, wash and bag the clothes, move the furniture away from the wall, and generally purge some of the stuff I didn't need that could potentially harbor the little insectoid terrorists. I was ecstatic when the first month passed and there was no sign of them. They had quite effectively ruined my life for a couple of months and I wasn't too pleased with them for that.
Now in August of the same year I'm faced with the same problem. They've showed up again. I caught them earlier this time because I'd been watching for them but I don't think it will make a difference. I get the feeling, though I'm not certain, that my suite is not the only one in the building, and on the block that is infested. I don't know whether they are spreading between suites or if they're in the walls, or if I should have thrown out my bed. Either way it's an experience that really turns your life upside down, at home and socially. I haven't had people in my place for nearly 8 months for fear of them taking home a hitchhiker, and I tend not to crash at anyone elses house for fear of bringing them with me. I hope that they come up with some way to kill them soon.
