Checked into Westin Hotel this weekend June 2012. Upon arrival I hung up our clothes and immediately checked for bed bugs as I do routinely for every hotel that we check into. I have never before actually found a bed bug during an inspection. This time I got on my knee's and looked under the box spring. Immediately I saw what appeared to be a bed bug crawling on a piece of fabric attached to the box spring. I screamed to my husband "we are out of here pack our bags and let's go" and we went ba
ck downstairs.
I told the woman at the front desk quietly why we were leaving, so we would not make a scene. She got the Manager who said the exact same thing that the previous listing here said to me. He said "we have never before had any sightings of bed bugs at this hotel. It has never happened before. How do you know it was a bed bug?" He asked me to go with him upstairs to show him the bug. I told him that I was leaving the hotel immediately and had no interest in going back upstairs to show him the bug, and how they handled it at that point was not my problem but I was leaving. He asked for my name and number. I told him that he has my contact information in his system. We left.
It is bad enough that the hotel has bed bugs. But this process of denial is really gross. Bed bugs can happen in the finest of hotels, I understand that. But how a hotel handles it shows their character.

Feb 25 & 26 I was in room 720. When I woke up on the morning of the 26th I found 4 or 5 large bleeding bite sites on groin area and buttocks, with large puffy red areas around them. At first I thought they were spider bites, but some image research on-line told me that were bed bug bites. I went to the front desk and quietly told me that WHILE THERE WERE NO BEDBUGS IN THEIR HOTEL, they would move me to another room. It was clear then, and later in the day, when I spoke to an assistant manager,
that the hotel or chain's policy was to completely deny any responsibility or any possible existence of bedbugs in their hotel. I happened to be working at a meeting nearby at THE NATIONAL SCIENCE FOUNDATION; so I found an entymologist and confirmed that I did have bedbug bites.
I had not been anywhere else, that I could possibly have been exposed to bedbugs. I am 100% sure they came from the hotel bed.
I have never read up on bedbugs before - so I don't know hotels usually behave when guests show up with bites. I would say that his hotel has a clear and scripted policy of denying any responsibility and following some sort of legal script with very specific and scripted language - that the employees have had to memorize. I will never stay in a Westin Hotel again
