10/15/11 Stayed one night- found a bed bug in our room the next morning (we did do a mattress check when we checked in). The following evening we started developing bites (face, arms & neck) about 15 bites on each of us. Our friend in the other room did not see any bugs, but had a few bites as well.

Some tips for those who have similar encounters with bed bugs. I stayed at the Apache Motel - 166 South 400 East, Moab, UT 84532 on the Labor Day Weekend 2010 in the Family Suite and the John Wayne Suite. I wrote a prior posting about waking up to find myself covered in blood and bugs on my back. Don't ignore the situation or be embarrassed. Take photographs, document everything, get medical help and verification it is bed bug bites, immediately talk to the staff and write down everything they s

ay, and finally contact immediately the County Health Department. Oh - wash everything immediately, fumigate the car, even cell phones and computers and books can now transport bedbugs, not just clothing. Every time I look in the mirror I see the bed bug bite scars on my face and body. The Apache Motel in one weekend forever changed my life, and I will pay for it the rest of my life.I have been told the bed bug scars will last for years, if not a lifetime, the bugs got into my vehicle and spread to my house. I lost countless pieces of furniture and clothes, not to mention fumigation costs, and the nightmares at night. It took months, but I won Judgement in Small Claims Court in Grand County, Utah with one of the most maximum awards possible. Sadly, the owners and staff of the Apache Motel, never once asked if I was okay, never once apologized, and never once tried to make good to a injuried lodger. I went from a devoted fan of the Apache Motel where I stayed for years and raved to family and friends, to absolute disquest at what has happened due to negligence. Sometimes lawsuits are necessary to make accountability. I should have happy memories of that Labor Day weekend at the Apache Motel in Moab Utah, not tears looking at the horrible pitted scars on my face and back that even make-up can't cover or hide. Oh - when I talked to the desk clerk a month after the incident showing her the scars and healing bites on my arm, her words were "Oh bed bugs just leave a little bite with no marks." She expressed a total lack of concern, but then she doesn't have to live with her skin scarred and damaged the rest of her life after what was supposed to be a fun weekend in a once-favorite Motel. As for the John Wayne and other movie memorabilia which was part of the reason we stayed at the Apache Motel. Just visit the Museum of Moab downtown at 118 Center Street, and explore numerous displays on the Movie History, the Uranimum Past, and you will have a much better time than standing in the lobby of the Apache with only about a dozen photographs on the wall. As for the rooms reflecting the John Wayne movie producing era, everything has been remodeled. The rooms don't even have a 1960's flavor. The building is on the National Register of Historic Places, and unfortunately the old building will probably always have bedbugs now hiding somewhere in the walls waiting for their next meal.

On Sept. 6 & 7 I stayed at the
Apache Motel in Moab Utah. I woke up the first night with my back blooded. It was bloody raw meat and blood covered my back and the sheetws. I had never expereince bed bugs till I visited Moab Utah on the Labor Day weekend. The staff seem confused, and didn't know what to do other than say over and over - "We haven't had any bugs all summer." This was an expensive and well-known motel. I had woke up in the night and put my hand on my back - splattt! I turned on th

e light and my hand was covered in blood. My friend found over two dozen bites, plus three living bugs sucking me. Needless to say I was horrified. The next night they put us in the best suite. Again bed bugs. The staff never offered medical attention, free rooms, or advice to get rid of them. There was no mention about washing our stuff. Unfortunately the staff also told us that bed bugs never travel in luggage or on clothing, nor could bed bugs go from room to room. Dispute out best efforts to clean everything, my apartment is infested just two weeks later. My car has had to be fumigated, I have over 200 bites now, my beautiful organic natural home and clothing has been ruined with pesticides and hot water, plus I am sick from all the chemicals. A few simple things like offering us a complimentary future stay, and most importantly offering medical assistance (I immediately had reactions, and I am going to have lifetime scarring), plus offered laundry service I don't think my apartmnent would be infested. I use to love this wonderful motel. Historic, quiet neigbhorhood, and friendly staff. I use to brag to friends about it. Now I am anger, hurt, and traumized
This article is excellent for hotel/motel's. beyond words. I have considered contacting an attorney. All because someone brought in bed bugs. Oh - the best part of the expereince was the staff's comment that it "was them Europeans. They are a dirty people." Not the kind of thing that encourages visitors.
Later when I went back to the front desk, the clerk told me they only fdound 10 live bed bugs in my room, then implied I probably already had bed bugs in my home. Then the story chained about "them French bringing the bed bugs into the Apache Motel." The desk clerk's story was now "them Italisns. They have bugs on them. They are a dirty people."
I have since found that the company I am working for on contract in Moab,l that their accountant from Denver had stayed at the Apache Motel just three weeks earlier and she got bed bugs.
The story never ends nor do the lies.

I've stayed in this hotel for several years, and this was the first time I've gotten bitten by bed bugs.
I stayed two nights, 11/5/10 and 11/6/10. Woke up on 11/6/10 with a few big itchy welts on my legs. Woke up 11/7/10 with over 30 big itchy red welts, primarily on my face, arms, hands and neck. I like to sleep on my side with the hands tucked under the pillow, so I'm confident the bugs were coming from the headboard area.
My friend stayed in the other bed and doesn't have any welts. She m

ay be one of those people who doesn't react to the bites. I definitely do react.
I called the hotel and alerted them, told the room and which bed I was in. They said they'd 'take care of it' and I really hope they do.
Until this year, I thoroughly enjoyed staying at this hotel.
