This occurred in 2009, but I just learned about this registry now. Anyways, I had stayed at this hotel on many occasions, no problem and it is cheap and old. Threadbare linens. Cracks in the bathroom. I doubt they clean it well. Went to bed one night and my husband jumped out of bed after 1-2 hours. We were covered in bedbugs. I had tons of bites. Took days to go away. We complained to the owner. He said a homeless person had stayed there before us (liar) and switched rooms. No refund. Have ne

ver stayed there again and am nervous about staying in any cheap motels now.

7/30/12 My wife had stayed there a year ago and found it infested with bedbugs. The managments attitude was gruff and condescending.

Recently after hearing it was under new managment we decided to give it another try. After asking at the desk, we were assured that there were no bugs and after getting our room sprayed it on our own as a precaution. At first everything seemed ok until that night and the bedbugs made their appearance. NOTHING HAS CHANGED AT THIS PLACE!!!

The University Lodge is on old Route 66 (now Central Avenue) and is in very close proximity to the UNM, Walgreens, Wal-Mart, and Nob Hill fast food, haute cuisine, bars and lounges, shops and galleries. It is also very close to the Fairgrounds with horse racing and a casino. It has been newly painted and remodeled and has passed a recent State inspection. As for bed bugs, they are a national problem, and have been found in high-price hotels, regular motels, even apartment buildings. You can Goog

le this problem and see that it is true...and...unfortunately...some guests do bring them in with them. The University Lodge has addressed this...the owners sparing no expenses... and is now clean and free of them.

university lodge aka bedbug inn
I was in a bad situation. I had to stay here for quite awhile. I unfortunately got to know owners and staff. They basically do nothing about the bedbugs!! Nice location, but do to the clients there are several occurances of drug deals and we will not even tell you about the large numbers of complaints about the bedbugs STAY IN YOUR CAR RATHER THEN STAY HERE!!!

The ONLY great thing about University Lodge is its location. I booked two nights at the UL last week and when I arrived it was clear to me what kind of situation I might be going into, though it was late and my spouse insisted that we give them a shot. Big mistake. For one, whoever the woman is that answers the phone is either mentally disturbed or has a very serious anger problem. However, that is not the focus of this review.

Shortly after departing from the motel (the following morning - w

e were denied a refund)because of a disruptive patron in the next room, I noticed several red bumps on my right leg, which I later found out were bed bug bites. Hours later I discovered even more bites in other areas, as did my husband. After much over the refund, the last thing we wanted to do was make direct contact with the owners again and decided to seek an area urgent care center for treatment.

On several occassions I began to wonder if the whole experience was an elaborate prank. Unfortunately it was not. Please heed the warnings and steer clear (especially if you have children). The Dharas family should be put out of business if they are unwilling to reconsider their business practices.

Stayed in room 32 on 1/27/11 and woke up with over 15 bed bug bites!

The first night I stayed at this "establishment" I stayed in room #29. I awoke at 1 am noticing 3 welts on my legs being utterly disgusted I knew right away this was a bed bug bite. Staying up the rest of the night, the next morning I reported the issue to the manger who seemed VERY! surprised apologized she would not give us a refund but offered another room she then had the room be steam cleaned and we moved out of the room and relocated to room #38. Room 38 is also a repeat of this bed bug si

tuation, in this room I actually caught 2 BIG bugs. One we (my boyfriend and I) killed and the other we caught live.

After reading about these rooms and reviewing these similar situations, I have to say I believe this whole hotel is indeed infested.. not one! but MULTIPLE! rooms.

Stayed here summer, 2010 for one night. Can't be sure bites came from here, but with different travel routes and with living in different places myself it's our best guess that the one thing in common was this room... myself and one other guest developed bites after returning home. Our best guess is it was the hotel though we didn't discover symptoms until after departing.

We stayed at the University Lodge for 3 nights, Dec 21-23. The first night we stayed in room #32 which had a very strong smell of chemicals, that should have been my first clue. I thought it was to mask the smell of smoke from the "non- smoking" room. So we moved to room #23 which was a bit cleaner. I noticed nothing wrong with this room the first night. However when leaving for the day the front desk woman told me that they would be steam cleaning the room that day. Should have been clue #2. Du

ring the following night's stay my husband woke up at 4:30am because he felt something biting his neck, he removed the bug and noticed it was a bed bug. I was sleeping in the 2nd bed and jumped out of the bed, threw back the covers and noticed 3 very large bugs under the covers.

I went to the front desk and told the woman that there were bugs in my bed that I had TAKEN PICTURES of and that I wanted a full refund because I knew this was not going to be an inexpensive thing to fix. She poked the red sign at the font desk that stated there were NO REFUNDS. She did give me the 2 plastic bags I asked for.

Leaving the hotel, she emerged from her lair to tell us she was sorry for this and that it must have come from another customer and repeated some stuff the city had told her to make me think this was an isolated event and she would put us in another room. We passed on that offer and left.

The size of the bugs I saw in that room, rather in the bed I had just vacated were huge, they had been living there for a very very long time. They migrate, probably from the rooms around mine.

Because I did not realize that there were bugs in my rooms until the last night I brought them over to a local's house for xmas and then proceeded to bring them 1/2 way across the country to my own home.

I know you can get bed bugs at any hotel, but the customer service at this establishment (and I use the term lightly) is UNEXCEPTIONAL.

There really isn't enough that I can do to warn people about University Lodge. As they saying goes, 'you get what you pay for', and though I was not expecting first class accommodations, the conditions at University Lodge are barely livable.

About the third day into my stay (room #68), I started to notice dozens of bites all over my arms, legs and torso. I made a complaint in person and the manager said that she would have it taken care of. The following morning, at 7:30 AM, what appeare

d to be a homeless man knocked on the door - he was there to steam the bed (which does nothing to stop bed bugs, by the way). That same day I had an appointment with my physician to be seen about the bites. Per his recommendation, I called the University Lodge to inform them that I would be checking out early and that I would like a refund for the successive days that I had paid for in advance.

You can probably tell where this is going ... Not only was I accused of prostitution (the 'housekeeper' had probably seen my back massager and drew his own conclusions, though I never had even a single guest over) but the woman said that she was going to call my family and let them know what "I had been up to". The level of unprofessionalism of this establishment (if you could call it that) is remarkable and I sincerely think that the place needs to be condemned, post-haste.

I will be pursuing legal action against the University Lodge for personal injury damages and the libelous statements that have been made against my character, which were disgusting, unfounded and completely FALSE.

The reviews speak for themselves. Stay at your own risk!
