Pheasant Run Resort on 10/29/2008
I stayed there twice in the spring of 2008 - once for an overnight, and the second stay was for 6 nights.
By late May, I began getting bites but assumed they were from mosquitoes or spiders. Then we began to see dark blood spots on our sheets. I went out of town again in July and when I returned, by boyfriend had welts all over his body so we inspected the bed and found a bug that, after looking it up on the internet, appeared to be a bed bug. Orkin came and verified it and treated the r
oom on two occasions.
Here's what I recall about my stay:
1) for the overnight, I was in the older B wing. I noticed a smell and remarked that it smelled like soda pop - one of the people with me said she thought it smelled like raspberries(which subsequent research indicates is a sign of a heavy infestation).
2) I stayed in the tower for 6 nights. One of those nights I noticed a dark blood stain on the sheets but thought perhaps I cut myself shaving my legs. Later, I learned that the larger spots are from crushing a bed bug that has just fed.
3) I saw a bug on the side of the mattress and scooped it up with a tissue and flushed it down the toilet. I recall thinking at the time I had never seen one like it before (now I am all too familiar with what bed bugs look like).
It has been two months since Orkin began treatment. I moved to the basement bedroom and got rid of almost everything from my bedroom (the rest has been bagged and sealed). I am now researching K9 dog detection for bed bugs as I need peace of mind before I return to my bedroom. Amazingly, we have seen no other indications(spotting, bites on other household members, etc.) anywhere else in the house.
It has been a real nighmare, both financially and emotionally.
