Our stay at the Ohio House Motel last year (summer 2012) prompted me to visit this website to ensure we don't have a repeat bed bug infestation after this year's road trip.

This motel was by far the dirtiest, smelliest motel I have ever visited. Our non-smoking room reeked so badly of cigarettes that when we checked out, our belongings smelled like we had been out at the club all night. The smoke was pouring in through the vents non-stop. Also, the bathroom had clearly not been cleaned. I ke

pt sandals on when entering the bathroom. The staff was terribly cold, and let us sit in the parking lot for about four hours in 90 degree temps waiting for a tow truck to give us a jump, even though they had cables available.

Worst of all, we noticed bright red bumps on our limbs after our stay, and checked online and concurred that they must have been bed bug bites. We washed our clothing, but found several months later that our son's bed had been infested.

After spending over $500 containing the disaster, I have vowed to never again stay in some two-bit rat's nest to save fifty bucks. After reading the reports on this website, I'm outraged that this place has managed to stay in business so long because they have a "captive audience" of those who want a room under $200/night. What a racket!

stayed at ohio house motel nights of 5/6/12 and 5/7/12. on morning of 5/7, i noticed several red/pink spots on my forearm and made a note to contact my dermatologist when i returned from the trip. but the next night was very different. while laying in bed watching tv, i first started scratching. it escalated quickly to scratchimng everywhere. then i saw drops of blood on my arm and thought it was odd. how could i have scratched myself on a soft bed? but the itching was unbearable, so i put 2+2 t

ogether. i looked in the mirror and saw that i was red from head to toe - hundreds of bites. this after just 1.5 hours laying in bed. i went online and googled 'how to find bedbugs in hotels'. armed with pictures of exactly what to look for, i carefully examined the bed. i found three bedbugs within less than 15 seconds - and saw them move. i packed everything up. i insisted that the front desk clerk call the manager at home. he wasn't at all surprised or started in any way - which to me suggested that this was a common occurrence - and sure enough - 11 prior reports on this website. i went to the emergency room and was treated. i did a decontaminbation shower and they gave me antihistamines, which help itching.

I just stayed at the Ohio House Motel two nights ago on May 4th, 2012, and I am now itchy and broken out like crazy. I found one tiny brown bug crawling on my waist the next day and did not know what it was. The rash or bites are getting worse as I itch them and they are very uncomfortable. I called the hotel and they said they would have the housekeepers check and call me back, but I am assuming as bedbugs only appear in the night they will find nothing. I am going to the Doctor tomorrow to

check this out for sure, but I am almost positive it is bed bugs. I stayed in room D112 which makes me believe the entire D section is a bad place to stay. I would NOT stay here again and will be checking this registry before every trip I make from now on.

We have been staying at the Ohio House for years and loved its funky vintage charm. Unfortunately, when we stayed on November 27, 2010, we picked up bedbugs. We noticed the bites when we got into our car in the morning but didn't realize what they were until we were home and noted the pattern of lines of them on hands, legs, arms, neck and even face. So, we ended up dragging the things home to small town Wisconsin with us and spent two weeks getting rid of them as they apparently infest clothing

and then bedding.

I got to this site after reading a tweet with my conference's hashtag that there were bedbugs in Sheraton, after I had slept a night in D115. So imagine how I felt :)

However I think the hotel has fixed the problem in the past months.

I haven't seen a single blood spot on the sheets and I've looked around. I also checked the headboard in the room, but I couldn't find any crevices in which bugs could hide (maybe behind, but I don't want to break down the room :)

The matrass has a specia

l cover, I'm no bedbug specialist, but I guess that could be against the bugs.

I'm still having jetlag, so I wake up really early (5am) but again haven't seen a thing. I'll post back if I find anything (I really hope not)...

11/16/2010. We were in the "D" block on the first floor, all the way in the back left (115?)

After about 30 minutes of lying in the dark on top of our made bed, we turned on the lights to find dozens of bedbugs on the pillows, comforter, walls, headboard, etc. The bed was heavily infested with bedbugs of all stages, from tiny pinhead-sized ones to full-sized adults.

Staff came by to visually confirm, then moved us into a newly renovated room in the "E" block (second floor, front left.

This room did not have bed bugs (and boy did we check).

We got one night refunded to us for our troubles. Staff said they would destroy the furniture in the infested room, but it's unknown if that happened or not.

on our visit to Chicago this past weekend, we decided to get a last minute room at the Ohio house. After checking in, we noticed a very small bug on the dresser. After inspecting the beds and drawers, we did not see any more so we decided to call it a night. Right before turning the lights out, I noticed two large bedbugs crawling on the headboard. We were not charged for the room as of yet, but the night employee said to expect this in Chicago, as this is a big problem there. We the

n were left to go find another hotel at 2:00am in a town we were completely unfamiliar with. Thank goodness we did, and they had NO bedbugs!

A friend of ours stayed at the Ohio House last weekend. The room he was assigned smelled strongly from fumigation, so he complained and was given another room. He returned to our houselast Tuesday and has since been bitten on both legs several nights in a row. We took him to a MedEmerge Clinic for confirmation, and yes, the bites are from bedbugs. We are currently in a near-panic, cleaning all of his clothes, throwing out the bed he slept in, and locking up the guest bedroom until we can get

a bedbug-sniffing dog - which we hope will be in the next few days. I wish I had checked the Registry before our friend booked a room in that ... place.

I AM WRITING IN RESPONSE TO THE MOTELS ACCUSATIONS BELOW:

FIRST OF ALL I AM A RESPECTABLE BUSINESS WOMAN IN NEW YORK CITY.

ALL THE INFORMATION STATED BELOW IS TRUE REGARDING OHIO HOUSE MOTEL, ROOM 110, CHICAGO IL. 6/18/10

The front desk person, Aubrey Jones, wrote & signed a note, which I have stating that I showed her the bag with the bugs & that we would not be charged for the room. Also a copy was made for Ohio house to have for their records. We were offered another room in the same

facility that reeked of cigarette smoke & we turned that down as we are both allergic to the smell. Where to go at 2am in the morning, therefore with leaving every light on, frequent trips outside & to the car allowed us to get thru the night until daylight. AUBREY ALSO MADE COMMENTS THAT BED BUGS HAD BEEN A PROBLEM BEFORE & THEY "SPRAY".

We were told that we couldn't talk to a manager until monday 6/21. On monday I called manager Larry James to make sure that i indeed was not charged for the room. (The charge is on my credit card, & i have disputed it with American Express) Mr. James said that he has no evidence( the note) & that his housekeeping staff checked the room & didnt find bed bugs. After thoroughly investigating on the internet, 1st- bed bugs are not seen during the daylight hours, 2nd the staff are not bed bug experts. I doubt that they had flashlights to search the crevices in the headboard like we had & found bugs & i'm sure that they didnt unzip & take off the mattress/box springs covers to find the bugs.(by the way the box spring cover was ripped & had a huge whole in it(bugs could have escaped that way), washed sheets had old blood droplets on them.) Anyway I faxed him the note & a picture of the bag of bugs(that i still have) in my possesion on 6/22 & asked him to reverse the charges which he has not done.

Bed bugs are a very serious problem!! If not treated extensively & found by professionals, will remain in the facility.

We have also contacted and been in touch with the City of Chicago Dept. of health, the STATE DEPT. OF HEALTH, & THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU.

"but our housekeeping staff inspects all rooms several times a day and have not found any bed bugs. In addition, we have consistently rented every room on the property most of this year and this is the first and only complaint of bed bugs. The room continues to be occupied and neither the housekeeping staff nor guests have had any issues." -BED BUGS COME OUT AT NIGHT IN THE DARK, WHEN ONE IS VERY STILL SLEEPING. DAYTIME THEY WOULD NOT BE SEEN. & MY POINT EXACTLY "THE ROOM CONTINUES TO BE OCCUPIED" PLEASE HELP THOSE POOR PEOPLE STAYING THERE AS WELL SO THEY DONT HAVE TO EXPERIENCE THIS TERRIBLE ORDEAL LIKE WE DID.

We are making all aware of this not only to get the charges reversed on the credit card & let all know that the management is not cooperating, but also to protect any other guest that stays at Ohio House Motel of the disgusting bed bug situation. 11 bed bugs in all from babies to large adults we found by us. If they are in 1 room most likely they are in others. This is terrible health issue as well & needs to be treated by professionals with the proper precautions.

I am the Front Desk person at the Ohio House Motel, 600 N. La Salle in Chicago, IL, and am emailing you to have a recent posting removed. This was posted on 06/21/2010 by "Anonymous" and it contains false information. The woman in question would not let me examine the Ziploc bag that she claimed to have. I asked to see the bag but she would not let me so I cannot be sure that there were bugs in there to begin with. Furthermore, why did she go to the trouble of collecting said "evidence", onl

y to refuse to present it to the front desk? When I offered to move her to a different room, she claimed that the new room smelled too much like smoke and did not want to move. I offered to refund her money if she checked out of the motel. Instead, she and her boyfriend decided to go back in the room that allegedly had bed bugs to stay for the remainder of the night; which she confesses to in her slanderous posting. Any rational person would move to a new room or check out of the motel immediately. She instead chose to stay in the same room. I believe she and her boyfriend are scam artists, trying to pilfer free rooms. Please remove this post promptly. Not only was she staying in a section that was recently re-carpeted and re-furnished but our housekeeping staff inspects all rooms several times a day and have not found any bed bugs. In addition, we have consistently rented every room on the property most of this year and this is the first and only complaint of bed bugs. The room continues to be occupied and neither the housekeeping staff nor guests have had any issues. Again, I respectfully ask that this posting be removed as it is entirely false.

I BOOKED ONE ROOMV(110) AT THE "OHIO HOUSE MOTEL" 600 N. LASALLE ST. CHICAGO, IL.(312.943.6000) FOR THE WEEKEND OF 6/18/10 FOR 2 PEOPLE.

ABOUT 1AM THE 1ST NIGHT, I AWOKE TO FIND 4 BED BUGS CRAWLING ON & AROUND ME IN THE BED. IMMEDIATLEY MY BOYFRIEND & I CAPTURED THEM INTO A ZIPLOCK BAG.

WE KILLED 3 MORE WHICH WE FOUND BY SEARCHING THE CRACKS & CREVICES IN THE WOOD HEADBOARD.

ALL IN ALL WE ENDED UP CAPTURING 8 TOTAL IN THE ZIPLOCK WHICH I SAVED AS EVIDENCE TO SHOW THE FRONT DESK.

WHE

N WE MADE THE MOTEL AWARE OF THIS DISGUSTING PROBLEM, THEY MADE IT SOUND LIKE IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME & THAT THEY WOULD GET SOMEONE TO SPRAY ON MONDAY(2 DAYS AWAY). I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT SPRAYING DOES NOT GET RID OF THEM. ALSO WHEN WE CHECKED OUT TO GET OUT OF THAT PLACE, THEY ALREADY WERE PREPARING TO BOOK THAT SAME ROOM AS SOON AS WE LEFT, SERIOUSLY?

WE ARE SO DISGUSTED WITH THE ENTIRE SITUATION!
